Family slain in apartment while police wait outside the door:

They (the cops) were allegedly waiting for a supervisor before entering, while they could hear the commotion going on inside. An hour later when they finally broke the door down, it was too late.

retracted as per new aps policy which i just read. now i do believe that lawyers run the world!
not making a life-saving decision for fear of legal or department retribution? typical in our fire dept as well.

Sounds more like a departmental policy. In these circumstances, police are given a great deal of discretion and immunity from liability.

Respectfully, the police are under no legal or ethical obligation to protect any individual from harm. While it is commendable that they virtually always do, it is not required. It is the responsibility for the individual to defend themselves. Unless you are in a People's Republic, of course.

Actually, in the first go 'round, I got overwhelmed by indifference rather than the cold.
I was in the middle of editing my OP, in the interest of compliance with new & improved policy, when I realized I did not care enough about the thread to comply with point #3 described in:

I said to my self, "Aw, *expletive deleted*ck it." So, I in accord with both new policy and my indifference I invoked ctrl-a, mashed delete, then keyed in the least possible to express my newfound indifference(1).
I figured that if anyone was interested in discussing a topic, the thread title and the poster's commentary would be the hook. Any summary written by the poster would likely be ignored. I know I would ignore such a summary and mash the link, instead.
Not to point fingers or anything, but some posters' keyboarding and sentence structure requires more effort than others. Reading the commentary (on the article content) while ignoring the summary (of the article content) is a reasonable course of action. The commentary tells me what the poster thinks about the topic, the summary tells me nothing I can't find at the original source (usually in the first sentence or paragraph).
(1) Brevity from me. Don't laugh, it can happen. :P

Personally, in the abscence of clippings from the article, if there isn't much of a synopsis from the poster I usually pass the link by and ignore the topic.
