Former Rady therapist sentenced to 45+ years

SAN DIEGO A convicted child molester and former respiratory therapist at Rady Children's Hospital who preyed on disabled young patients was sentenced Wednesday to 45 years and eight months in prison.
Wayne Albert Bleyle, 56, of Santee was ordered to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, which means he will almost certainly spend the rest of his life in prison.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth So also noted that Bleyle will be required to pay restitution to his victims in an amount to be determined later.
In what was prosecutors called one of the worst child molestation cases imaginable, Bleyle pleaded guilty June 12 to 13 charges including committing forcible lewd acts on five children under his care, and exhibiting a minor in pornography. Prosecutors say Bleyle deliberately targeted seriously ill children because they were so disabled they couldn't tell anyone what happened. Two of his victims have since died. The mother of one of the deceased victims said in court Wednesday that Bleyle took advantage of the trust placed on him by the patients, their parents and the staff. His actions, the woman said, have brought immeasurable pain to her family.
It doesn't matter what you say and how many years you spend in jail, it's not going to be enough, the woman said in court.
I don't think you have a soul, she continued. You're just an empty human shell.
Several other parents whose children were treated by Bleyle at the convalescent hospital, but were not named victims in this case, told the judge they will never know for sure whether their children were molested. Nevertheless, they said they still felt violated and betrayed.
Defense lawyer Casey Donovan told the parents in court that their children's names never came up during the investigation. He said Bleyle wanted to apologize to those he did victimize and their families and that he felt a great deal of guilt over what he had done.
Donovan noted that Bleyle had been molested when he was 12 years old and later developed an addiction to child pornography.
There's no excuse for his activity and his actions, Donovan said. I think it's important to know that he has tremendous guilt.
Bleyle showed little reaction during the hearing.
He was arrested March 8, 2006 after investigators with the San Diego Internet Crimes against Children Task Force discovered he was collecting and sharing child pornography online.
A search of his home uncovered evidence that he was molesting children, including photographs of him in the act.
Serge Duarte, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement deputy specialagent assigned to the task force said Bleyle told investigators he had molested so many children over the years that he had lost count.
Bleyle worked at the hospital for 26 years, the last 10 at the convalescent center where the staff cared for seriously ill patients. He was fired after he was arrested March 8.

With a little luck, he might have a fatal accident before his years are up.  His fellow inmates are probably as disgusted as people on the outside.

I just don't know what to say about the other story.  We need a little chlorine in that gene pool.

Given that it costs less to send someone to Harvard for a year than keep him in prison for the same period, I think it's time for a short rope and a long drop.

We should look seriously into prison outsourcing. Turkey could probably warehouse our bad guys for $5 a day. Various African countries would do it for less.

And it would be very appropriate for people like Wayne Albert Bleyle to serve their time in Lusaka Jail or Mogadishu Penitentiary.

Turn him loose on the streets at noon.  He will be done before 12:01.

Why do people say this kind of nonsense to guys like that?  Why would he care?  What do such comments even mean?  What's the point?  He treated your kid like an empty human shell, now you're going to call him one?  How stupid is that?

At least that wouldn't be such embarrassing soap opera nonsense.  It's like we've let trials turn into the Jerry Springer show, with victims' families just screaming at the accused.  And that's just pathetic.

It may be pathetic, but that's all we really have.  That's all we can do to these guys.  Prison is just a vacation for most of 'em.  Making them suffer as much as they truly deserve is illegal in any civilized country.

This one makes me think of that scene from a movie with Samuel L Jackson where two dirtbags raped his daughter.  The name eludes me at this moment, sorry.

Next scene AR15 (or similar) and two dead rapists.....  Samuel L needs an attorney now.

In China, this creep's family would be charged by the state for the bullet.  Maybe China has some things right after all.

There was a time when people like this were dealt with in the prison by the prisoners. That still happen?

IMO, when an individual chooses to predate on the members of a society to which he belongs, especially it's weakest and most vulnerable, he voids the rights, protections and priviledges offered by that society.    There is nothing civilized about having to co-exist with a rabid dog.

Why is it they all feel extreme guilt and remorse when they've been convicted and are facing sentencing, but they plead Not Guilty in court and somehow managed to abuse multiple victims on multiple occasions without any of that massive guilt or remorse ever creeping to the surface.

Ahhh ... probably just a coincidence.
