Just got what appears to be a typical "Nigerian Scam Letter," only this one doesn't offer money, it offers a job.

It gives a link to click to get the application, and the link ends in .php.

I know that's a hypertext scripting language, but can it be a delivery medium for viri?

I've already spam reported the message to Yahoo, but I'm just curious.

I am not sure.  I wouldn't run it. 

I have been getting emails lately that appear to have pdf files attached.  I have no idea what that is.

PHP is a server-side scripting language, so there's nothing intrinsically more dangerous about clicking on it than on an HTML link.  Which is not to say that the page that is living behind the php won't be malicious, of course.

You could just click on it and find out.  After that, your spilled coffee might seem trivial

I've been getting lots of "You've received a greeting card!" spam. An ".exe" file in DOS is an application, right?

I'm supposed to be naive enough to click on it?

Yeah,  I get 4-5 of those greeting card emails per day.  Getting annoying.

.EXE is executable code. Don't run it.

I get several job offer scams, but then I have my resume posted on monster, hotjobs, dice, etc...

The majority that I get are there to get your information to sell.  Many of them (including this one I got today) ask if you are interested in higher education.
