Is the MD-80 already gone? It was the initial 'replacement' of the DC-9.

Not too many prop jobs left....most smaller airlines have switched to the Regional Jets.

There's still a lot of Embraer turboprops used for short hops and small field to hub commutes.

Aren't there a few Bombardier t-props still hanging around as well?

As well as Saab 340's, Beech 1900's and Metroliners....but many mainstream commuter airlines have been picking up as many Regional Jets as they can and tossing thier props.

Well, that begs another question - Why did the jets come with props to begin with?

IANAAE, but my understanding is that turboprops are more efficient than turbofan engines at lower altitudes and lower speeds (i.e., commuter routes).  Turbofan engines are most efficient at higher altitudes, so they make more sense when the route is long enough to justify expending fuel to climb to altitude.

Unisaw's got it. Use the propjobs for the shorter routes (say, SEA-PDX) and the jets for the longer ones. I'm looking at a whole ramp-full of Bombardier Dash-8 Q-200's and Q-400's right now.
