Jayhawk "art" ruffling feathers
« on: July 11, 2018, 03:02:58 PM »
An "artist" flies a defaced U.S. flag on the Univ of Kansas campus in the name of art.

Okay, so I'm all for freedom of expression. If you want to do it as art, do it as art. Display it among the other twaddle that passes as popular art so all the liberal pop-art aficionados can ooh and aah over it accordingly. Tacky, disrespectful stuff is done all the time in the name of art and it doesn't get a second glance if it's in context. Flying a defaced flag on a standard where the Old Glory is normally displayed? No. That's an overt display of "Eff You, Conservatives" in a place where respect is traditionally politically colorblind. That's not art, that's subversion. And stupid.

Also... Kansas? You might get away with it in Seattle or San Fran, but this stunt in the bosom of flyover country is a guaranteed fund reducer. I'm guessing more than a few U of K alums and donors are lighting up the Chancellor's office phone right about now.

I have a hard time following her "logic."

I suppose that's expectable.

“The black and white sock on my flag takes on a new symbolic meaning in light of the recent imprisonment of immigrant children at the border,” she said.

When are they going to realize that it is they who are splitting the country with BS like this?
WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Isn't that in Laurence (or Lawrence)? Isn't that campus just as kooky as the rest of them? I would think flying an un-defaced flag (right side up) would be more of an offense there.

Lawrence is nowhere close to as liberal as St. Louis. The conservative and mil community are not happy.
Sometimes we carry more weight then we owe.
And sometimes goes on and on and on.

That's good to hear.
