According to Obama's economic advisor Robert Reich. I am just...speechless, I am so angry at this.
“Now let me say something about infrastructure. It seems to me that infrastructure spending is a very important and good way of stimulating the conomy. The challenge will be to do it quickly - to find projects that can be done, that have a high social return, that also can be done with the greatest speed possible. I am concerned, as I’m sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high skilled people who are already professionals, or to white male construction workers.”
(I would prefer something that cars go on would be built by highly skilled professionals, wouldn't you?)

This is what they want. This is what they want to do. SOCIAL return. Not economic. This is the same damned social engineering handout crap that doesn't even really help the minorities, it just makes some middle contractors rich and creates some useless crap that never gets done. They don't want to build bridges, they want to do the same...goddamned...garbage they did in the 70's. ALL over again.

I suppose this is what we knew was going to happen. Still, knowing it's going to happen doesn't prepare you for the shock of getting hit in the face with it.
If anyone has any doubts about the true purpose of Obama's stimulus, this should end them. It is NOT about fixing the economy.

I agree that Obama will use any attempt to fix the economy as a tool to advance his social agenda as well. But, Bush's attempt to stimulate the economy had secondary benefits for the his supporter's agendas as well.

Of course. They need to be "helped". That is the strange racism of liberals. Republicans I know will hire based on skills and merit, and are often colorblind. That should be the goal.

The only problem is that the burden is far higher on white male plaintiffs than on minorities. The courts presume that businesses will never discriminate against a "majority" and the plaintiff has to overcome this presumption.
None of this is surprising, since a racist slam was in one of the inaugural prayers.

I've seen a lot of argument elsewhere that "Skilled white construction workers" will just wind up having to re-build the projects when they're found to be unsafe.
It's been my experience with underprivileged urban minorities who are coming into contact with the working world, perhaps for the first time, is that the majority of them simply disappear after two-three days. The recent upturn in unemployment notwithstanding, by and large, those who are able and willing to work, are already in the workforce.
So IMO, those "Skilled white construction workers" will wind up building these projects (if they ever happen) anyway...

Sadly when living in the seclusion of the academic ivory tower or in the shelter of unearned wealth, a person's view of humanity is impoverished and perversely skewed. If one did know these essential facts and over time through power, status, or accumulated wealth forgot them, they indeed may be easier reached than the types who never knew them at all.
