Reagan lobbied for an AWB after leaving office. George HW quit the NRA in a public tizzy. George W allowed barrel imports to be banned, effectively killing parts kit market.
Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

^^^^This. Strings nailed it. Republicans, Democrats...a pox on BOTH their houses. They both lie to their constituents, and say anything we want to hear to get elected, then they follow the money and the power until the next election. Tar and feathers should come back into style.

Nationally, true.

But in our Montana state politics, the Republicans are still much better overall than Democrats.

Not a question of if. It's a question of when. I have no faith in the republicans. None. They will cave.  Then try to window dress is as "we did this because if not, the laws would have been much more restricting. See we helps you".

Considering that they have caved in the past for most of the major gun control acts, I agree.  IIRC, the percentage of Republicans that voted for the AWB in the Senate was higher then the percentage of Democrats.  I don't have any faith in the national GOP.  At the state level, it is better, though here in Michigan, our GOP governor is NOT pro-gun.

And on this topic, here in the Ill-i-noise Volksrepublik, it's much more location than party.

And, yes, the folks with R. behind their name are not much more our friends than the other guys, and have far too much of a history of caving in.

I STILL want to watch someone put forward the "Full Faith and Credit Act"

Would do exactly 2 things: make any CCW from any state recognized in all other states, and do the same for marriage licenses.

You get to watch heads on both sides of the aisle explode...

What was that about a pearl handled revolver and someone from New Orleans again?

Screw it: just autoclave the planet (thanks Birdman)

Right there with you, man. This NEEDS to happen. But, as with most bills that make sense, that are PRO-freedom, PRO-liberty, none of the elected "leaders" can be bothered to propose it...

Was it HW or Clinton that EO'ed against imported rifles?

Both.

HW banned some imported rifles in 1989, following the shooting in Stockton, CA and Clinton banned some more in 1998 and then banned some imported pistols in 2001.
