Movie: A Man Called Ove
« on: July 29, 2017, 07:21:29 PM »
We were clicking though Amazon Prime last night and my wife saw a listing for this movie.  She had read the book and thought it was good.

It is the story of a grumpy old widower who finds meaning in enforcing his HOA rules, scolding scofflaws and dressing neatly for his suicide attempts.  It was actually pretty good, and the story may resonate with many here.

Not likely. I'm a grumpy old widower, but I loathe and detest HOAs, keep my nose out of other people's scofflawing, and don't dress neatly for anything.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

It is the most popular movie out of Sweden since the Dragon Tattoo series of movies.

I stuck it on my watchlist. Right now I've been hooked on the stuff Netflix is getting from Korea, China and Taiwan. I'll need to jump back to Scandinavia. The last time I watched something from there was Lillyhammer.

Yep, the Mike Irwin story...

Except for...

I don't give a *expletive deleted*ck about my HOA's rules, generally. They're pretty non-restrictive for the most part.

I'm not a widower.

I don't give a screw what scofflaws do just as long as they don't do it to me. If they do do it to me, chances are pretty good they'll be looking down the barrel of whatever handgun I'm carrying that day.

I dress relatively neatly. Maybe 10% of the time.

I will, however, wear a tuxedo when I go not on my suicide attempt, but on a killing spree.

I think we have been warned.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Please please please let the soundtrack for your killing spree be "A Holiday for Strings".

Pretty please with sugar on top.
I promise not to duck.

You mean the theme from the old Red Skelton show?

I was thinking Yakkity Sax, but damn, that also has some charm.
