Two Senators from Vermont introduce a bill to make selling fake maple syrup a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

I don't understand why we have categories of crimes anyway. It reminds me of the Catholic church's idea of "mortal sin" versus the regular kind. I just think it's stupid. I don't think there should be a rigid category of felony and non-felony. At least unless someone can enlighten me on the history of or utility of the thing.
