South Carolina Debate
« on: February 28, 2020, 06:09:55 PM »
In case anyone hasn't noticed, this year's primary scramble by candidates for the Democratic party's presidential nomination is a race to agree that "gun violence" is a problem, and they're eagerly vying with each other to see who can be the most anti-gun (while, of course, not admitting that they ultimately want to ban ALL guns). A recent e-mail blast from the NSSF brought this to my inbox:

Quote
The Charleston, S.C. debate stage was the place for Democratic presidential candidates wanting to show their lack of firearms knowledge and Americans’ Second Amendment rights. From former Vice President Joe Biden, to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and the rest, crosstalk and heated back-and-forth on the criminal misuse of firearms dominated. However, the candidates’ platforms included wildly false statements, tired scare language and egregiously wrong facts. The only coherent message is they’re aiming squarely at knocking down the rights of law-abiding gun owners instead of addressing crime. Read Larry Keane’s article on the debate debacle.

Link to Larry Keane's article: https://www.nssf.org/south-carolina-debate-lacks-facts-on-gun-control/?utm_source=grupdate&utm_medium=text&utm_content=govrel

The opening paragraphs sum it up:

Quote from: Larry Keane
The debate stage in Charleston, S.C. was the place to be Tuesday night for Democratic presidential candidates who wanted to demonstrate their lack of firearms knowledge and Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

There certainly were a lot of words and crosstalk during the heated back-and-forth between candidates on the criminal misuse of firearms. However, the candidates’ platforms included wildly false statements, tired scare language and egregiously wrong facts. Unfortunately for the American people, the debate offered gun control platitudes, not serious answers voters deserve.

Basically, I saw seven democratic candidates each saying the other six are unsuited to become President.

In this, I agree with all seven.
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

While  I would normally say, "Yeah, what a bunch of dumbasses", I can almost see why they might do that given what I have just stumbled upon here in Idaho. While I complained a while back about the ridiculous cost for digital newspaper subscriptions, I broke down and did a trial with the Idaho Statesman, just so I could be more in touch with local stuff.

Man, was I shocked. Having access to the editorial section, literally, and I mean literally, nine out of ten editorial opinions, letters to the editor, etc. are so commie pinko that I thought I was reading my old newspaper in Santa Barbara. Anti-gun letters, pro socialism letters, everything you would expect from a big city in a blue state. Absolutely not what I have run into in real life living here. The letters all seem to come from Boise and Eagle (wealthy conclave) where I suspect the migrant liberals are. Reading backgrounds on the paper's editors, they are all commies too.

So even if real life opinion is different, if a national politician is coming into Idaho only using the Statesman as their "culture source", IMO, they are just getting the minority gadfly overview and will be out of touch with the rest of Idaho. I have to wonder if it's a similar situation in SC, where your big state news sources are biased liberal and out of touch with the rest of the state.
