What a crappy game
« on: February 05, 2006, 05:01:37 PM »
Called by the ref's.  I am a firm believer that they went in there with the mindset to screw over Seattle!

I'm no Steelers or Seattle fan in the least but they made 3 bad calls that lost the game for Seattle.

First, was the touchdown called back on Seattle for a push off.  Wrong!

Second was the touchdown by Rothlesburger.  The ball didn't break the plane of the goal line.  Sad

Third was the holding call that called back the completion on the 1 yard line by Seattle.  Nail in the coffin.

Terrible, just terrible.

Good thing was the Bud commercials.  They were top notch as always.

I love to hear from all the haters.
Their team didn't win, so they don't have the class to let the fans of the team that did win, enjoy it. No, it was rigged. They have all the excuses in the world. Nooooooooo, they arn't biased, they are just trying to correct the wrongs done by the man.  Really, it doesn't have to do with anything else.
BS

I grew up about 35 miles from Three River statdium. I have been a Steeler fan my whole life. I have seen them win all FIVE Super Bowl rings. And you crying in your beer isn't going to change that.

"Anyone still think pro football is any different from pro wrestling?"
Why don't you do us all a favor and explain in detail your conspiracy theory. Because I can give you mine. Afterall, I live in Las Vegas.
All the money was going on Pittsburgh. The line kept moving Seattle's way. What was it: Two days ago a hook was added to the point spread ? AND, if Seattle would have scored that last touchdown, they would have covered BY THAT HOOK. BUT, THEY DIDN'T. The casinos are paying out big time.

I disagree with you on the Pittsburgh touchdown. The camera with the best view was at an angle to the goal line. I think if you were to straighten it out, the ball would barely have crossed the plane.

The Seattle touchdown that was called back was kind of tenuous.

But, Seattle didn't help themselves with what, two turnovers, including one as they were driving for a touchdown. And

And sorry, but that holding call? That ws holding. No doubt about it.

You also can't blame the refs for the blown coverage on Pittsburgh's last touchdown.

I really expected more out of Shaun Alexander, as well. Yeah, he had a good per carry average, but where were the touchdowns? His one decent run was negated when the kicker missed the field goal.

Nah, Seattle played a sloppy game, far sloppier than anything they played this year, and they paid for it.

i would bet the refs goal line camera is square with the line and not on a tangent like the ABC view

That touchdown could have gone either way, it was a judgment call. The offensive pass interference call was absurd. How about the blocking below the waist call on Hassleback after the interception. How can you possible be called for blocking below the waist when you tackle the ball carrier?

As far as that holding call, all I can say is that it might very well meet the definition in the rulebook, but by that definition a ref can call holding on any play they want to. It wouldnt have been called in a highschool game and sure as hell shoudnt have been called at the superbowl.

It was a sloppy game all around anyways though.

I told my family, "Seattle did all they could to lose that game."

They really played badly. Sure, there was some poor officiating that took place, but Seattle didn't play well enough to win. If they had played better, (every once in a while they looked pretty good, but it never lasted for more than a play or two) I believe that Seattle would have won.

The Steelers goal line TD could have gone either way, but that was the call of the offical, not the result of the challenge. Whatever would have been called would have been upheld, because there wasn't enough evidence to overturn either a TD/no-TD call.

Okay, I'm still rambling:

Like Mike said, Seattle played a sloppy game. They got at least two turnovers, and didn't capitalize on either one.

Yeah, Seattle was really sloppy and did not help themselves but I think Paul Allen should sue the NFL for failing to provide competent officiating.

If I had his resources and was screwed over like that I would bury the league in paper as well as going on an all out propaganda campaign to convince people that the refs have to be better. Full time professional refs are a must.

Odds are that the Steelers would have won this game anyway but:

That phantom offensive interference call that stole a TD from Seattle and

The holding call on Seattle that brought back that critical reception was correct however the non-call for offsides on the Steelers player that was held should have meant offsetting penalties replay the down Then he went and did it again on the very next play.

did not help the Seahawks.

There were other things but my memory is fading as the game was not that interesting to me as my team was not involved.

The Seahawks should be ashamed of their horrible clock management and playcalling at the end of both halves. Plus several dropped balls really killed them. And why is Joe Jurivicous not not higher on their check down list? The guy is a play maker yet he is their third or fourth guy. I don't get that.

One more thing, Holmgren calling for a long figgie try instead of going for it on 4th&5 in Steeler territory. That was weak, not as weak as punt would have been but weak. Stupid call.

Except for that touchdown they scored after intercepting the ball, right?

No kidding, i dont know that it had much effect when all was said and done but it sure was an embarassment for the whole team. Little league coaches display better time managment tactics than we saw at the superbowl today.

I'm waiting to hear the explanation on that....there had to be a good logical reason right?  SeaHawks were tuff though, I rather play the Colts again instead ot them.

Ok, the Rothlesburger touchdown could of went either way, but the other two calls were the back breaker.

Like I said, I am not a fan of either team, just like to see the ref's do a decent job.

Seattle didn't help themself out with the sloppy play but I was just pointing out that the majority of the crappy calls went Pittsburgs way.

It's funny, but there's not word one about Seattle being robbed or screwed by the officials in the Seattle PI this morning.

Most of the articles lay out what Seattle did to lose themselves the game, including a BUNCH of critical dropped passes.

In reference to my previous post concerning the post about wrestling: Here is an article today in the Las Vegas Review Journal: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2006/Feb-06-Mon-2006/news/5739167.html

"We did not lose, but this will probably be our worst Super Bowl in five years," Walker said.

Can anyone explain the "low block" penalty called on Hasselback?  I wasn't rooting for anyone, but I did watch and I am very puzzled by that call in particualr

"Adding further insult, Hasselbeck was called for a personal foul when he dropped down and tackled Taylor below the waist. "

That's from the Seattle Post quarter by quarter overview.

I didn't see the play, so I'm not sure. I heard it, but I was otherwise occupied and never even saw a replay.

Second was the touchdown by Rothlesburger.  The ball didn't break the plane of the goal line.  Sad.

Care to retract your claim?

Disclaimer:  I am a Pittsburgh fan.

The pass interference penalty that negated a touchdown must have hurt.  Read the rules.  What the Seahawk player did was a textbook definition of a push-off.  You do that, you take your chances.  Taking chances right in front of the ref during the Superbowl is a poor decision.

Did the refs block for Willie Parker when he ran 75 yards for a TD?

Did the refs catch the ball thrown by ARE to Hines ward for a touchdown?

Did the refs cause Seattle to miss two field goals?

Did the refs cause Seattle to horribly mismanage the clock at the end of the first half?

Did the refs cause Seattle's soft tight end to drop three crucial passes?

Did the refs push the Seattle's wide receiver out of bounds on what would've been a touchdown pass?

Did the refs throw the ball to Ike Taylor, killing the Seahawk's hopes of coming back?

Those who whine about how the refs cost Seattle a championship are simply looking for some way to mitigate their pain at a loss.

Seattle lost.  They did not have an "off game."  They were not "cheated."  They lost to a team that outplayed them.

The Steelers defense contained the Seahawk's offense.  The Seahawks made very bad decisions at critical times.  The Steelers came up with huge plays when they most needed them.

Don't be like your head coach.  The way he walked off the field without shaking Cower's hand was a disgrace.

Show some sportsmanship.  Show some courage.

You lost.  Be a man and accept it.

I have participated in a number of shooting matches over the years. I have actually won a couple (not many). But, when I lost I didn't blame it on my gun. I didn't blame it on my ammo. I didn't say that I didn't get enough sleep last night. I didn't say that my mind was on other issues. I didn't say I was cheated.
I lost because I didn't shoot as well as the guy that won. I was man enough to accept that fact. Complaining that I would have won except.......................... is childish in the extreme and something I tried to quit doing in grade school.

On the way home from work this morning I as listening to NFL radio on satillite. First of all, the former players agreed that the game was called according to the book with the exception of that Matt Hasselbeck personal foul which was questionable (and would not have made the slightest difference in the outcome of the game). But more importantly they brought up the overturned interception by Troy Polamalu in the Colts game. They got screwed on that play and Troy knew it. When the play was overturned, he put his helmet back on and ran back out on the field. He didn't cry and whine that he got screwed. He didn't complain to the media that the game was fixed (although Joey Porter did). Why ? Because he is a champion. He doesn't let other people influence his behavior and his play. He has class. He is mature. He doesn't waste time complaining about stuff he can't control. He focuses on what he can control and does his best.

The Steelers came out of no where to win this Super Bowl. They wern't handed anything. They weren't even a lock for the playoffs. They got in the playoffs and were the sixth seed. They beat the first, second, and third seeded teams, all on the road, to get to the Super Bowl. They won seven games in a row against the best teams in the NFL to get to the big game. Then, the won the big game and all the player haters want to whine that the game was fixed. That's low budget.

And on that note...

Didn't watch XL last night, went and shot a match. I too lost, sigh...

It wasn't my gun OR my ammo. I was just SUCKIN' last night!  Cheesy

Oh well, got another one tonight. Hopefully I won't suck again!

Whether or not the officials had it in for the SeaHawks, they still played a horrible game.  Too many dropped passes, too sloppy.
