The Roundtable / Re: Oh Oh, Chongo! Danger Island

Huh. Never heard of Generation Jones before, but looks like... I'm Generation Jones. Also Gen X.

But I never liked the Banana Splits. Or HR Puffinstuff.

Looking back at HR Puffinstuff and some of their other stuff I wonder if the Krofft brothers were doing LSD at the time and what was in my cereal while watching it.

The NY Times has a big article today that blames ALL of the violence at UCLA on the counter protestors.

The Roundtable / Lost on the Appalachian Trail
« Last post by Ben on May 04, 2024, 11:03:22 AM »
I ran into this tragic story from 2013. An elderly woman was hiking the Appalachian Trail and got lost while going off trail for a bathroom break. She remained lost for a month before dying of exposure (based on the journal they found).

This is one of those instances where she did the recommended thing by staying in one place, but would have been better off moving. Apparently Search and Rescue came within 100 yards of her tent, with dogs even, and missed her.

"In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of this great country.  Gore's territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off government welfare...."

This is a terrible take that is an obvious attempt to torture the data to tell a story he wanted to tell and his audience wants to hear and won't question.

Cities tend to vote Democrat because Republicans are specifically hostile to them and the Republican party has embraced this as a semi-official part of their non-platform, all driven by the need to collect a majority by class and cultural division.

The American economy, as it has always been and all economies have been ever in history, is dominated by cities, and the tax roles reflect this, despite mountains of policies and handouts to exurban America. Pretending that rural areas are the ones footing the bill in America is a laughably wrong take, but perfectly crafted to cater to the insecurities of their chosen base.

Land doesn't and has never voted. Electoral policy in America is already heavily federalized to benefit smaller jurisdictions and always has been; claiming that the system is tilted towards population centers is backwards, but again, it wasn't intended to be accurate or meaningful.

You know, El Salvador took care of their problem by mass incarceration of gang members.  I see a potential model for solving our problems here.

Canada is to get pissed off real fast if we started shipping our problem people north across their border

The Roundtable / Ukrainian Anti-Drone Shotguns

The Ukis are apparently buying Turkish BTS-12 shotguns for anti-drone defense. So much for a worthwhile use of American taxpayer dollars. At least a Ukrainian Oligarch can buy himself a new yacht with the kickback ducats from the Turks.

The Roundtable / Oh Oh, Chongo! Danger Island
« Last post by Ben on May 04, 2024, 09:50:51 AM »
I recently learned that I'm not a Boomer and am actually Generation Jones, for which there is a Reddit sub that has been bringing back a ton of memories from when I was a kid.

This morning it was the Banana Splits and the live action "show within a show" they did called Danger Island, featuring a young Jan Michael Vincent. Until this morning I had forgotten all about it, but it opened up a ton of memories, like I remember that the black guy had some stick that was like a Swiss Army knife stick, and I now remember duplicating it the best that an eight year old could, having all kinds of adventures in the backyard.

Anyway, there's no way this non-woke (and it was probably considered woke at the time) kid's show would be on the air today.
