Answer: Aromatherapy candles and AK-47 assault rifles.

Question: Name two things never found together.

Actually, not so fast.

In a small strip mall off Dimond, Alana and Lu Perullo are living proof of that old saying about opposites and attraction.
..
Lu agrees the shops get some cross-over customers.

I go to both!  I usually swing by the Ammo Can (formerly Gun Runners) to get some ammo and then swing by the new age shop to get incense, masque and the like.

In North Austin I noiticed a strip mall that has a bank on the end, and a liquor store next to the bank, sitting next to the liquor store is a gun shop... talk about irony.

It is not complete without a tobacco/cigar shop.

There used to be a store in Glenwood Springs, CO, that had "DRUGS    GUNS    LIQUOR" as part of it's sign across the front of the store.  I don't know if it's still there, but I always laughed when I saw it.  I think I even took picture of it once.

Oh, I dunno... Hoppe's or CLP scented candles might be a big seller.

Not a chance.

I love the smell of burnt powder at pistol ranges, but I detest the odors associated with gun cleaning.

There used to be a combo gunstore/mailing place here in Phoenix named "Guns R Us & Postal Plus".

masque?

In this context, I'll hazard that Cosmoline is speaking of...

Also, masque. a cosmetic cream, gel, paste, or the like, that is applied to the face and allowed to remain for a short time before being removed and is used for tightening, cleansing, refreshing, or lubricating the skin.

Bentonite clay, to be exact.  Mixed with apple cider vinegar.  It feels like it's ripping your face off, but it does clean out the pores.

I can see this, depending on the flavor of "new age" we're talking about here. A lot of folk in my faith are heavily armed, while most Wiccans I've met tend more toward "non-violence". The closest new age store here would definitely have problems with a gun shop next door, but the old one I used to visit in Oakland, CA was run by a voudun with a carry permit.

Cosmoline,
Could you email me about Bentonite clay? I'd like to hear more about this stuff. I tried the search engines, but most of what I found was related to cat litter???

They're not so different, if you think about it. Both shops are about taking control of your life and destiny.  Karma, if you like.

Neat marriage.

Actually, I believe there's another strip mall in Round Rock (just north of Austin) that also has a gun shop next to a liquor store . . . all that's needed is a cigar store and you could get alcohol, tobacco, AND firearms conveniently!  grin

The more I think about it...they all need a drive thru to make it perfect.

I first moved back to Austin in 1963.  On W. 38th just off Lamar was Dan's Liquors.  Adjacent to it was Dan's Guns.  Bought a Sears&Sawbuck .270 for $70.
