This isn't normally what a .243 carbine sounds like.  Cheap mics do bad things with impulse noises.

I am more put off by the prospect of the apes playing video games and being far better than me at them.

They fling poo!  I don't think anything I could yell into the mic will decrease their gameplay performance.
