Favorite Horror Movies by State
« on: October 27, 2018, 09:17:51 AM »
I've never heard of the one for CA. Idaho went classic old school - another reason the state is a good fit for me. :)

Shawn of the Dead seems to be the most popular.

Shawn of the dead is a comedy, not a horror movie.

I agree. Also I'm in the "Aliens is not a horror movie" camp.

In addition to Shawn of the Dead, Zombieland and Cabin in the Woods aren't horror movies. The first is a comedy and the second a satire of horror tropes.

I'm not sure I would classify The Silence of the Lambs as horror either. More like Crime Thriller.

I think a case could be made that Alien is a horror flick, but I agree with Ben that Aliens is more scifi action.

So basically the whole list is just wrong.  =D

That's funny... it says Drag me to Hell for Virginia, and that movie has been playing on HBO quite a bit lately.

I think it's positively terrible...

And, if you look REALLY hard, you'll see a small area of Virginia where the favorite movie is the Leprechaun series... Guess who lives there?

Yes, I agree there. You could sway me either way on the original.

I like how Texas goes with the obvious choice.

Also, there's a whole state where people have heard of "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night"?  :O

My favorite is "The Village," because I don't watch horror movies.

The Interest map is probably more interesting, pun not intended =).
"so I ended up getting the above because I didn't want to make a whole production of sticking something between my knees and cranking. To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben

Indeed. I thought it interesting that the state with apparently the least interest in horror movies would pick a relatively recent and (to me) obscure movie that probably most people have never heard of. If you have no interest, it seems you'd be more likely to pick some very well-known movie that everyone has heard of. What the hell is a "Babadook"?

Saw the 2009 version of Last House on the Left last night.

Wow. Bad.

But, not nearly as bad as House of the Dead.

That may possibly be in my top 3 for the worst movies ever.

Babadook gobbledygook from Wikipedia...

"One night, Sam asks his mother to read a pop-up storybook called Mister Babadook. It describes the titular monster, the Babadook, a tall pale-faced humanoid in a top hat with taloned fingers who torments its victims after they become aware of its existence."

Supposedly it's a pretty good movie.
