CNN is reporting that Kim is "in grave danger" following cardiac surgery:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/20/politics/kim-jong-un-north-korea/index.html
NBC News was reporting that he fell into a coma and is now brain dead ...
https://twitter.com/northindex/status/1252421259234693129
... then retracted the story:
https://twitter.com/Deven_Intel/status/1252423797858201602
... and Fox News reports that he is recovering:
https://www.foxnews.com/world/kim-jong-un-cardiovascular-procedure-north-korea
This is what happens when one relies on Twitter for news about the Hermit Kingdom.

To paraphrase Mark Twain; while I don't wish Kim Jong Un ill, I would read his obituary with a great deal of satisfaction.
-
Who's next in line? I didn't think he had a clear line os succession set up like his father did.
Would his death and/or incapacitation by his obvious looming heart disease and dibeetus lead to more or less turmoil vis a vis East Asian politics?
-
Who's next in line?
Dennis Rodman
-
I did some more research.
Apparrantlly the likely successor is his younger sister. Who is even more of a cartoon villan thaan he is.
Imagine the Baroness from GI Joe but meaner and less mentally stable.

I know little about her, but from what I have read, please get better Kim Jong Un. What a twitchy and unstable finger to be hovering over their big red button.

Yeah but the Baroness was hot, Kim's sister not so much.

Is that the one people were cooing over, because she "threw shade" at Pence at the Olympics, or "side-eyed" him, or whatever stupid internet phrase it was?

The rumor mill kicks into overdrive:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8256791/China-sends-medics-North-Korea-amid-claims-Japanese-media-Kim-Jong-vegetative-state.html?ITO=applenews
New rumors are circulating claiming that Kim Jong Un has died - including a top Hong Kong journalist.
Vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television Shijian Xingzou says that a 'very solid source' has told her Kim Jonh Un has died.
Separately, one Japanese media outlet claims that the North Korean dictator is in a 'vegetative state' after he underwent heart surgery.
China has dispatched a team to North Korea including medical experts to advise on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to three people familiar with the situation.
-
Kim Jong Un didn't kill himself
Too soon?
-
Shukan Gendai subsequently detailed how the surgeon in charge of Kim’s operation was not used to dealing with obese patients and was too nervous during the operation, leading to delays that left Kim in a “vegetative state.”
Well, yeah, since if you fail, you're shot by an anti-aircraft gun. Totalitarian chickens coming home to roost.

We have been part of the korean conflict for over 60 years. Don't think we leave when the entire population suddenly needs food and medical care. I mean we could pull a Libya, look how well that has worked. Despite being a UN conflict not really expecting the UN to take the lead either. Hopefully feed people and steer things towards normalcy until South Korea can take care of them. Or, just ignore the problem and let China take care of the norks. I'm sure they don't want to expand their sphere of influence, but gee, if they really have to...

I have to say, I thought this 2020 show was pretty packed with the unexpected, but to kill off Kim Jong Un with no warning was an amazing twist. I wonder how the Writer will fit this into the Pandemic Panic.

Personally, I'm in wait-and-see mode.
Despite the SJW hand-wringing over it, it's a very real factor if NK will accept a woman as leader, or the internal power structure/struggle will. And even if they would, it's not clear if she has the pull to take the leadership position. If Kim is dead or comatose, her power base might be gone.
And as to if "she's even worse than he was" I'll wait and see. Those leaking that info or rumors might have an axe to grind. Considering NK's history, "worse" could mean a lot of things. A dragon lady who ruthlessly consolidates power internally could just as easily stabilize things. Since she was educated abroad, she has to be just as aware how behind NK is as even compared to China, much less South Korea.
-
If she is anything like we are lead to believe, I wouldn't be surprised if we have Korean War II.
Also maybe Russia or China will try to take the NK as their own if there is a vacuum of power, especially with the Covid-19 panic.

I had a thought about that this morning. Would China or Russia actually *want* NK.... Given their abysmal lack of technology, lack of resources, lack of food for their citizens.... I don't know that they would actually *want* the country. The only advantage I see is now sharing a border with South Korea, if they ever decide that they want to try to take the entire Korean peninsula.
-
From the sources I have read, she takes after her grandfather.
Kim Jong Un got the country and runs it pretty heavy handedly, but enjoys the good life. He like nice things, he likes famous people coming to visit and stroking his ego, and he likes his country (and by extension himself) to have neat toys.
Everything I've read about his sister is that she's a True Believer communist, and ready to finish the revolution her grandfather started.

Something we should always keep in mind is that Americans tend to think ten years out, and the Chinese tend to think 100 years out. I'm not denigrating us, it's just that I think even the shortest Chinese dynasty ran three or four times as long as our country has been around. Simply a different mindset.
I don't know enough to take a guess about Russia - I have no idea how invested they are in North Korea anymore since the fall of the USSR.

If you were around 1920, how effective do you think your planning would be for 2020?
I hear stuff like that and I think it is mostly BS. Yes, there is some long term strategic planning you can do, but that assumes you know what to do and it is very general.
I don't think they effectively plan even the 25 years out like they always said about Japan. However, that doesn't excuse the very very short term thinking of US politicians which is 2 years ahead if that. US Business probably would plan further out and do, but they are tied down by US tax policy which drives a greatly deal of their thinking.

Well, "The Diplomat" would agree with you, but [tin foil on] it was founded by a Chinese person. They quote a couple of people as being wrong on Chinese long term strategy:
According to former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, China’s authoritarian leaders are masters of long-range strategic planning informed by timeless principles derived from China’s rich history and culture. China expert Michael Pillsbury – reportedly an influential outside adviser to President Donald Trump – goes so far as to claim that China’s leadership follows a secret century-long plan for achieving global dominance by 2049.

I am not saying you can't do long range planning, but I get the impression some people think it can be done in detail like saying China was planning for a strategic showdown with the US in 1922 which is laughable. IMO, it can be done, but it is just planning for the health and strength of your country than for any specific adversary or event.
Drachinifel did a short video on what a nation would need in the early 1900's to build a dominant Navy. A lot of it was in building the internal production and technical expertise to build stuff on your own versus buying it, along with developing the internal industrial infrastructure. IMO, China has done an excellent job the last 30 years or more of taking advantage of US short term thinking and corruption to buy, steal, and develop technology and set themselves up as a major industrial producer.
I think there are plenty of people in the US and the US Govt that are fully capable of that sort of planning, but political and economic realities make that difficult. I figure our military looks at that all the time. The business side could be better, but I think a lot of that is driven by tax law, labor law, and import/export regulations which is controlled by corrupt politicians.

Anyone listen to Trump last night? He was asked about Kim. At first he said he couldn't answer but in standard Trump fashion he kept talking and kind of did. Said things like "when he recovers". It sounds like Kim is probably alive. I'm more inclined to believe he's in a coma/vegetative state currently.

Honestly, the best thing that could probably happen is he wakes up in a VERY reduced capabilities state and spends the rest of his life as a figurehead.
The generals underneath him MIGHT not be as bloodthirsty and the country might benefit. From what I've been reading, if his sister succeeds him, it would be bad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyKQe_i9yyo&t=0m47s).

After lawmakers asked about Kim, [Taiwan National Security Bureau Director-General Chiu Kuo-cheng] said that the North Korean leader had fallen ill.
“So [Kim] has been sick, but he is still alive?” Tsai asked.
Chiu smiled and did not elaborate.
DPP Legislator Wang Ding-wu (王定宇) also asked about Kim’s condition.
“My answer is from the intelligence that is available and it is not an opinion,” Chiu said.
Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) lawmakers asked Chiu to explain how the bureau had obtained the intelligence on North Korea.
Chiu said that there was a lot of speculation surrounding Kim’s condition, but he could not talk openly about it, as it could disclose the bureau’s sources in North Korea.

A North Korean defector now serving as a lawmaker in the South claimed Friday that he is “99 percent” certain Kim Jong Un is dead.
Ji Seong-ho made the comment without citing his source, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency. Rumors have swirled in recent weeks over Kim’s health after the dictator was last spotted in public April 11.
"I've wondered how long he could have endured after cardiovascular surgery. I've been informed that Kim died last weekend," Ji told Yonhap.

I think it's getting interesting now. It has been long enough that a healthy Kim should have made some appearance somewhere to refute a potential crisis in NK as well as the lies of the Western dogs.

I don't know enough about the subject to make any sort of judgment on this.
“It looks like a right radial artery puncture … [which is] often used for access to the coronary arteries for stent placement,” one U.S.-trained medical professional told NK News, adding it appeared to be “about a week old.”
“It is hard to tell from the foreshortening of the photograph, but it seems a bit medial. It is not an IV [intravenous], which wouldn’t leave such a mark.”
A South Korea surgeon also told NK News that the mark on Kim’s arm “looks more plausible to be a procedure or check-up mark from a procedure on a heart-related issue.”

Kim Jong Un disappeared from public view over the past few weeks because of concerns about the coronavirus – not for any heart-related surgery – South Korea’s intelligence agency is claiming.
The disclosure comes after members of South Korea’s parliament were briefed by the country’s National Intelligence Service on Wednesday, according to Reuters. Kim made his first public appearance in nearly three weeks last Friday at a fertilizer factory near the North Korean capital of Pyongyang.

I'm going to assume that the NORK cadre of generals and other high-up government types are some of the least-woke people on the planet and are thus sexist beyond anything we might see in the west.
So they might well resent having to take orders from a woman and might dispose of her quickly.
If they do depends on what she has over them. Maybe it's enough to keep her in power, but then, maybe not.
And if she goes and another Kim doesn't step up we could see a civil war break out amongts the crime families that make up the Nork government.
And won't that be fun?

It's going to be interesting. Has he put on even more weight?
If he has he's the only one in North Korea who can...
Reportedly now over 300lbs
The intelligence service also noted that an artificial intelligence-assisted analysis of the leader's weight puts Kim at 140 kilograms, or about 308 pounds.

Saw some photos a few days ago after the N.Korean (failed) satellite launch with him supposedly at launch control and was thinking D! he's gotten big.
He's is officially reported to by 5'7" but based on photos many place him closer to 5'5. 300+lbs on a 5.5" frame makes him a fat boy.

I'm 6'1" @ 301lbs and I'm WAY too fat by 80 lbs or so!

What the heck?
North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un cried as he called on women to have more children, saying that it was their duty to halt the country's declining birth rate in order to strengthen national power, state media said.
In his seemingly highly-choreographed emotional plea, the authoritarian leader was seen dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief while addressing thousands of women gathered at a National Mothers Meeting in Pyongyang on Sunday.
Many in the audience openly wept along with their leader at the event, the first of its kind held in 11 years and put on amid a fall in the isolationist state's birth rate.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has said it is a duty of women to halt a fall in the country's birth rate in order to strengthen national power, state media said on Monday, as his government steps up the call for the people to have more children.

Have more kids, because too many of the ones you already have are dying of starvation.
