That's the one.

In all fairness I should reread it. Maybe I was in the wrong place at the time to fully absorb it.

No, that's the impression I got too. He did great work but man was he full of himself.

Oh, and greatest comic evar?

I'm with Balog.

Calvin and Hobbes is, however, a VERY close second.

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

"The true mad scientist does not make public appearances! He does not wear the "Hello, my name is.." badge!
He strikes from below like a viper or on high like a penny dropped from the tallest building around!
He only has one purpose--Do bad things to good people! Mit science! What good is science if no one gets hurt?!"

C&H was the best ever, Far Side a close second and Peanuts in third.....
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Second best is Bloom County

Third is Far Side

Fourth is Doonsbury, or however it's spelled.

Fifth was Peanuts.

Honorable mention to Liberty Meadows.

Few historians know of the heartwarming friendship between French Reformation theologian John Calvin and English political philosopher Thomas Hobbes, the latter of whom may or may not have been real, considering he was not even born yet.

In thy presence is fulness of joy.
At thy right hand pleasures for evermore.

Doonesbury? Seriously? It's a bit, err... leftist, for my tastes.

i like mutts better then Far Side. but then, we almost named a cat stinky pudding and my dog is named after Earl.
its almost like that guy took the jokes we made about our dogs and wrote them down. i mean, its like moochie IS pharoh.

My physics professor last semester put a C&H strip on the cover sheet of each exam. He was a terrible teacher, and his exams were horrible, but at least there was a little something fun associated with the class.

one of my english teachers used to make us write 'journal' entrys based on a topic. one was a C&H, with calvin outside at night. "HEY!....screamed the dustspeck."
its been one of my favorites ever since.

I'd have to agree that it's the greatest comic strip ever.  Followed by Get Fuzzy and Non Sequitur.
I'm from Texas, what country are you from?

Far Side, then C&H, then..... not really sure, honestly. Dilbert has some amazing stuff, but a lot that feels churned out too.

I'd have given up parts of my anatomy to sit in on a conversation about the art  b/t Charles Schultz and Bill Watterson......it would be like sitting in with Tolkein and Lewis....but with pictures....  =D
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

i like the Non Sequiturs with Lucy and Danae. i have the book and i stole the picture of Lucy and Danae chillin' in the liverpool with the jumper flying over. one of my favorite straight comic images.

Except none of the other three people in that analogy are nearly as much of a pretentious jerk as Waterson.

Edit: oops, forgot where I was. Sorry about that.
