Title: I need HDPE pipe
Post by: .Cheese. on June 09, 2007, 09:02:52 PM
Anybody know where I can find HDPE pipe?  It's to make a 40 shot aerial shell finale for this year's fourth of july.  I have the shells, I just need to make the launch-tube rack.

Can't use PVC pipe as it's too brittle and if the initial charge doesn't take the shell out of the launch tube, PVC would explode as shrapnel.  ABS pipe is just as bad.

HDPE is all I can use, but I don't know where to find it.  I'm specifically looking for 1 7/8" width HDPE pipe.

I'm on year three being in charge of the city fireworks where I live.

We grenaded a 6" fiberglass mortar tube last years 4th. Any tube next to it in the rack shattered and we were picking up pieces of wood from the rack 200' away from the explosion took place. I'm just glad we were 125' feet away when it happened.

Our finale racks are heavy cardboard tube 3" and 4" ID.

here is a place to look http://www.skylighter.com/mall/plastic_mortar_tubes.asp

If you are doing a legitimate show with products (1.3G) purchased from fireworks wholesaler then they will provide you with tubes to use for the show.

I know, plastic pipe is easy to work with and light weight, but aluminum (fairly light) or iron pipe would be safer and should be good for reuse for years, thus cheaper in the long run.

Can't you bury the pipe in a box full of sand ...?
