What a horrible, horrible person. I cannot express the revulsion this man makes me feel.

Shoot him and make him a martyr.

Never a good idea.

I'm amazed at how fundamentalist pukes can flip open their Diety manuals and find justification for their repulsive actions.

This guy puts the "mental" in fundamentalist.

A martyr? I think example would be more like it. As in "reap what you sow."

As for shooting him, on second thought I'd rather bayonet him low in the belly and leave him in the desert.

...has left the building.

Rev. Phelps?  What a sorry waste of food and air.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

There are some alleged, so-called "Christians" that make me ashamed to be identified by the same name.  Protestant and Catholic terrorists in Northern Ireland are among their number.  Phelps and his followers are too...

That piece of trash came to my school a couple years ago.
Did somebody really bomb his church?

There's a very short list of people who I'll take pleasure in hearing of their death.  He's on it.  (I'd say he's at the top, but the list is that short)  In all honesty, if he showed up at the funeral of a member of my family, he'd leave on a stretcher.

I second that.  You know he's gotta have some leather chaps and a rinestone riding crop in his closet.

If it was my family member or friend, he'd leave in the OMI van. Yeah, I'd likely wind up in the big house, but I'd have a clean concience.

I'm not sure which is worse from the  perspective of stereotyping, Phelps or people who broad brush fundamentalists as being like Phelps. I've known thousands of "fundamentalists" and don't know of a half dozen like Phelps. I've met as many atheists, agnostics, and unitarians as I have "fundamentalists" who are as hateful and murderous as Phelps.

So, which homosexual group is funding this guy whose only business seems to be embarassing conservative Christians?  And which of us is casting the first stone by hating Phelps?  Please post to the forum and let us know if one of you manages to kill or injure him.

Yeah, just like every anti-abortionist has an abortion in their past, and every white racist is actually part black.  All very logical.  Everyone who believes the earth is round has actually seen the edge and is too afraid of the truth.  Every anti-gunner has a secret arsenal - ok, that one is sometimes true.

fistful: I think everyone is just belittling Phelps. Which, given how he "preaches", he IS asking for it...

I've used the whole "here's a rock" thing when someone starts getting judgemental. Fun thing is, as a pagan, I CAN throw said rock... >Smiley

As for Phelps showing up at a funeral *I* attend? I flat out guarantee he'd be leaving in a body-bag (mainly because I know the type of people that would be present)...

I'll have to be the odd man out here and say that I won't murder the mentally ill.

However, I'd do my best to make sure that, within the law, he wouldn't be going to anyone's funeral for a long, long time.

(Anyone consider that he's conveniently listed all his past victims? Wink )

Kinda reminds me of the fellow who "followed orders from his dog" and killed people.  Going around & blaming the dog/God/Bible for a nutboy's actions makes zero sense.

Remember:  There are lots of dog owners who DON'T shoot their neighbors.

At a funeral? Remember, body goes *under* the casket, and make sure everyone present agrees on a story.

Would I kill the guy? Of course not. A Twain quote comes to mind, though...

"I've never killed a man, but I've read many an obituary with a great deal of satisfaction." I wouldn't shed a tear over his passing.

Almost agreed, Wasr.  As a Christian, I will be sad if he doesn't actually repent and believe before he dies.  I don't like to sit in JUDGEMENT of another's salvation, but he doesn't show much fruit of the Spirit; i.e. faith, hope, love, etc.

It would be ironic if he goes to protest another soldier's funeral and gets sniped.
Yeah, but see, then God would kill more of our soldiers but with rifles this time.  And then his followers would have to picket at their funerals.

Can we please just stop this cycle of violence?

Hey man... God started it! Right?

Oh, no... the FAGS started it, by following their "freedom of sexual choice". What hogwash, anyway: everybody knows that sexual interactions are ONLY for procreation, right?

And can SOMEONE explainwhy, exactly, he's protesting soldiers' funerals? I mean, I didn't see any mention of said soldiers being gay (isn't the military still "don't ask/don't tell"?). Or did I just not read through the info enough?

Guys, I'm a Christian, and let me just say, this guy ISN'T.  Being a Christian is about living like Jesus did, and Jesus showed love to all.  Note, He still pointed out their sin, but did so in a loving way.  Jesus would never call a homosexual a "fag" and would surely never hate anyone.  This Phelps character does not represent Christ.

Wikipedia has an interesting article about him.  He is apparently mentally ill.  Involved in spousal abuse, child abuse and drug abuse.  Has his own little cult, made up primarily of his family members.

Article on our buddy Fred...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps
Article on his "church..."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church_%28Topeka%29

Liike I said, he doesn't represent Jesus.  Jesus would never do this kind of thing.  I certainly am glad I won't be Fred Phelps come judgement day.
