Another McCain advisor blows it...
« on: July 10, 2008, 11:37:14 AM »
Quote
Sen. Barack Obama blasted his Republican rival today after one of Sen. John McCain's top economic advisors said the nation was in a "mental recession" and complained America is "a nation of whiners."

Although McCain attempted to distance himself from the comments of his economic advisor former Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Tex., Obama pounced, quipping that the nation already has one "Dr. Phil."

"Quit yer bitchin' and vote McCain, you whiners!"

Catchy slogan, I'm sure he'll do well.

PLEASE convince me that McCain is not deliberately trying to throw the election . . .

Anyone?

Please?

Oh, that's swell. Insulting the electorate is a great way to gain supporters.

I used to have some hope that McCain could win. That hope is fast disappearing...

Why would you say Phil Gramm is a Rockefeller Republican?  I believe he was actually elected first in Texas a Dem in the 70's.  He later resigned and reran for office as a Republican in the special election.  I always thought he was an economic conservative from the Reagan days.  He usually ran on economic issues, not social if I remember.

....but yeah, probably not a good thing to say right now.  I am sure the media would love to find something to talk about besides something Obama or JJ said.

Why is Gramm qualified to advise anyone on economics?

I am beginning to seriously consider that possibility.

McCain is known to have a temper a mile long.  He clearly held a grudge against Bush for stealing the nomination from him in 2000.  Possibly he also has a grudge against the Republican Party for snubbing him.

McCain's actions since 2000 certainly support the idea he has it in for Bush and Republicans.  Would he give up his chance at the Presidency just to satisfy a scorched-earth grudge?  Seems hard to believe, but he's certainly acting like he would.

McCain is an enigma.  At best.

But I agree with Standing Wolf that what Gramm said wasn't so off-base.  That said, it won't turn this Election anyway.

If McCain wants to win he has to show the average American what life will be like under Obama.  He can parody John Lennon's "Imagine."  Imagine your life after eight years of Obama Nation.  If that doesn't scare the "whiners" into sobriety nothing will.

No one's paying attention to McCain, so how could it possibly matter what one of his advisors said?

So does the McCain ship sink before the Obama boat goes down with all hands? It's like a race to suck the most before November.

Gramm betrays his elitist status while McCain is now going to try and convince the average American that he is not. Right   grin

McCain attempting to "distance himself"? I'll bet.

I think McCain needs to loan Obama's bus.

I was watching the Today Show this AM and Meredith said that McCain has someone to throw under the bus. My wife looked at me funny because I started laughing.

BTW, I think Phil Graham is right, we are a nation of whiners and Obama's snake oil show of "Hope and Charge" caters to the biggest whiners.

True but McCain needs to offer true "Hope and Change" and start calling the whiners out. If I was a presidential candidate I'd try my best to wake America up, point out our faults as painful as it might be and run for improvement. Improvement to me is not a leftist agenda. I'd have a lot of frothing at the mouth people pointing fingers at me but I think there would be a lot more people scratching their heads and agreeing with me.

Why is Gramm qualified to advise anyone on economics?
He spent a bunch of years as an economics professor before going into politics.  (which means little)

I think people down here liked him because he was normally for limited govt.

Why we like Gramm=>"everyone out of the wagon and help pull it!"

Damn *&^%ing straight we are a nation of whiners.  Someone has to point it out.

Nothing wrong with the country that a size 12 boot in the backside to most segments of us would not fix.

Except that it makes people run to Obama, who promises free ponies and candy. You say that AFTER the election, not before.

Exactly. The ones that actually want to change the country want to change it for the better, which means people will have to pull their pants up and start pulling their own weight. When presented with that choice next to a check from uncle sugar every month and free healthcare for everyone which one would you pick? The difference between us and most of the country is that we know that the Obama option is a pipe dream that will drain the wealth of the country and throw it away, and that isn't even touching foreign policy.
