I'm too lazy to look it up, but I wonder which post-DOS MS OS version remained in general use, at least for business and technical applications, the longest? I'm thinking it will be either NT or XP.
I'd say XP. I work an assignment on a state construction site a couple of days out of each week. Several of the state-maintained computers in the field office are still running on XP (including the one assigned to me). The others are all running Win7.
