Newt!!??
« on: May 12, 2011, 03:15:06 PM »
Newts announced he's running.
I'm still angry at him for the 2008 commercial scolding us about "climate change"
with Nancy Pelosi.

Is any Conservative voting for him? I'll never pull the lever for him personally.

He's "establishment" GOP.

That removes my vote from his column.

Just say "No!" to Statists.

Careful, emotion is what liberals use to determine their vote.  My concern is how well he would govern, not for an irrelevant commercial he did 3 years ago or for any perceived 'establishment' status.  The man is sharp... he knows history, economics, and politics better than most folks know themselves.

If he falls for the climate change hokum I have to doubt his accuracy WRT history.
I've seen interviews that have impressed me, but the whole climate thing is being perpetuated by the same people who told me that "The people" mean "the militia" in the 2nd Amendment & "common sense" is what guides them to try and ban AR15's

I'm sorry to all the political purists, but I'm pulling the lever on anything that doesn't start with a B and end with an A. I know it's wrong, but it is what it is.  :P

Newt would be good but the nooz is going to eviscerate him on the whole left his sick wife thing. I see him and Trump as good flak decoys, put them out there for 9 months and let the media and the 529s waste all their firepower on them. Be a good deliberate strategy.

God I hope you're right-I dislike B.O but he seems to be crafty politically.
I'm beginning to think he's getting reelected-right now I like Herman Cain for potus 2012

I like Herman Cain too, but I doubt he'll be on the ticket.
I don't think he could win.....
Then again I never thought Obama could be either ....until I realized McCain was the opponent.
What do I know?

Anyway, I don't really see a lot of good people in any party, really; quality people seem to be driven away from politics.

He engineered the '94 republican takeover of congress and then promptly when native as did Dick Armey and a host of other "conservative" republicans.

I would love to see an honest to goodness debate amongst republican candidates.  Newt would tower over them all.  But just can't be trusted with power based on past performance.

Politicians should be judged based on actions, only.

Agreed....I'd have voted for him as POTUS in '96 or '00, but now he's just another Stupid Party RINO....

I don't think he "fell for it", I think he's willing to whore himself out for whatever he thinks will keep him relevant. He saw Bush Sr. and Clinton globetrotting as "disaster ambassadors" and thought he could play the same game with Pelosi over climate change.

I give him mad props for the '94 House takeover, however, it's clear to me now he's just a surfer looking for a wave.
I promise not to duck.

NG isn't as bad as BO.

Neither is BC or GB.  Do you want them back too?

How about we do better than "not as bad as BO" because that's a low mark to beat.

Bah.  If he were so sharp, he wouldn't have fallen for the globular warminchange a month before the wheels fell off the globular warminchange cart.  Al Gore with a personality and poorer timing.(1)

Also, Newt has always fallen for the Ehrlich/Toffler/<insert_futurist_du_jour> claptrap.  If he's so danged smart, he would have stopped being taken in by goofballs who have correctly predicted 37 out of the last 2 disasters and been correct on exactly zero of the recent disruptive technologies and global trends.

Other than that, Newt's a flipping genius.

(1) OK, I admit the Gore bit is not fair.

Newt is also a genius on immigration.  Wants to triple H1B Visas.  Good for "business," y'know.  (Not so good for American hi-tech workers.)  He's soft on illegal immigration (like most of the GOP pretenders.)  And one of his pet projects has long been Statehood for Puerto Rico.

Right now only one person who's stated he intends to run looks to be getting my vote.  You may have heard of him, represents TX, supports letting the states decide their drug policies, has a kid in Congress.  Also rather soft in the immigration issue sadly, but then nobody is perfect.
