Wake me when they come up with a magic pill that will reverse the damage done by decades of bad eating decisions combined with an almost complete lack of exercise beyond pushing buttons on a remote

2 grams of Fentanyl will fix that right up.   ;)

I'll take the 20 piece bucket of fried chicken
3 extra large fries.
A super fudge dessert cake
And a diet coke, I'm on a diet.
Turns to their friend, what do you want?

'And a diet coke, I'm on a diet."

I drink Diet Coke/Pepsi not because I'm fat and on a diet (I am).

I drink Diet Coke/Pepsi because I prefer the taste over the stuff with corn syrup in it.

Some people seem to think a diet coke will somehow balance out the 6,000 calorie meal they just ordered

You would be surprised to learn of the number of patients who come in asking for pretty much this.

I want to backtrack on whether the FDA ever restored l-tryptophan for human use.  I started to buy it from animal supply houses and really did not pay that much attention to the issue.

Supposedly, tryptophan is what makes one sleepy after a big thanksgiving turkey dinner.

For further details, stop at a "dedicated" natural food store and ask.  I relied on Wife1's knowledge of nutrition stuff without going into great detail --she is pretty sharp on that subject.

l- and d-  (leuvo and dextro) chemicals are identical in conventional chemical formulas, but differ in the way the atoms are arranged structurally in the compound, and can  form mirror images of each other when viewed structurally.  The two versions can differ in their chemical reactions.

Corrections welcome.

As far as L is concerned

Quote
What are the risks of taking L-tryptophan?

L-tryptophan has been linked to a dangerous, even deadly condition called eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS). The FDA recalled tryptophan supplements in 1989 after up to ten thousand people who took them became sick. EMS causes sudden and severe muscle pain, nerve damage, skin changes, and other debilitating symptoms. Doctors saw a lot fewer people with EMS after the ban. Some research suggests the sickness was due to contaminants that got into the supplements during manufacturing in a factory in Japan.
The supplements have since been re-introduced to the U.S. market.

Biggest reason I remember it being pulled off the market is that my mother was taking it to help her sleep and I remember her being quite upset over the ban.

A major problem in the US is all the sugars we consume. From the breads and fries on... Too much glucose is a bad thing.

Too much fructose is worse.

Some docs sell the hell out of surgeries... Several different kinds. And more than a few patients die from them eventually - either from complications or malnutrition...

My wife is on an injectable appetite suppressant to help with weight loss.  It seems to be working pretty well.

Okay, WTF?
Have taken it three nights in a row and it helps me falls asleep but then I wake up a couple of hours later and can't get back to sleep.
Can't find any similar reports on the internet.
