Most of us have eaten pre-packaged desserts like granola bars, twinkies, candy bars, boxed cookies, and oatmeal cream pies. We've all had Little Debbie's snacks and sugary cereal. Almost none of it tastes as good as the stuff made from mixes or scratch. Another problem is shelf life. The only things that would still be good after 8 or 9 years would be expensive dehydrated goods, canned ingredients such as pie fillings and fruit, or sealed jars of sweeteners like honey or mollasses. Nothing that could be eaten with the fingers.
I think that companies should can things like donuts, cakes, pastries, and cookies (some of my favorite desserts). They already can brown bread. Why not ready made desserts? Even if the prices were too high for survivalists to buy in bulk they would still make cool novelty foods. In any case, why shouldn't the victims of nuclear war be able to enjoy something they had in the past?
If anyone who reads this works for a canning company please consider my proposal.
