As a former analytical chemist, I have read all about the various street methods for making meth, out of professional interest. They struck me as pretty dangerous for the cook, leave lots of toxic waste, and generally produces a pretty impure product with some toxic byproducts in them.
One of the reasons meth completely fries the brain.
Safety is pretty low on the list of concerns for meth cookers. Tweakers are a dime a dozen...no one cares when a meth lab blows up and I certainly don't care when a tweaker departs this life.
The drug culture is just something that is absolutely crazy...
The latest craze in Oklahoma is the "Shake and Bake" method.
Mix all the chemicals in a 2 liter bottle and shake. It occasionally overheats with disastrous results.
Big here nowadays because it is easy, quick, and produces meth with what you can get in one purchase at the pharmacy counter. I've picked up several littered bottles used to make meth when doing cleanup at the park I used to work at.
The control of pseudoephedrine containing products is also total bull*expletive deleted* and has done nothing to actually slow the meth scrouge. Any pharmacist will tell you that the tweakers are easy to spot...they show up in groups, each bearing a crisp $20 bill to purchase their two boxes of medicine.
The thing that gets me is this woman was cooking meth for 6 hours before somebody finally said "Hey, maybe we should get the popo involved". WTF?
