Title: Identify this goose thing
Post by: Telperion on May 23, 2005, 04:49:12 PM
I've seen this goose a few times around where I work.  It's a bit larger than a typical Canadian honker, and unlike them it isn't a annoying hissing poop factory.  Anyone know what species it is?

Maybe a hybrid cross between a common white domestic goose and a Canadian??!!
We had one that looked like this that hung around our lake a few years ago.

Are we talking about geese or Canadians?

But seriously.  He looks like a Western Bean or one of the Greylag variants.  None of them are native to your part of the country.  Actually, I don't think they're native to North America at all.  Maybe there's a North American variant I don't know about.

Looks like a toulouse like we had when I was a kid. Murray McMurray sells them and a lot of people keep them around as yardbirds.

No idea, but that is a very well done photograph!  What sort of camera did you use?

You're all wrong. It's that Kerry creature America wasn't dumb enough to elect last November. I'm sure it is. Does it look intelligent enough to be president?

Well, there you have it.

It seems the toulouse is a domesticated form of the European greylag, species anser anser.  So I guess that's what it is.

Justin- thanks.  I used a Canon digital rebel, with a 50mm lens.  Here's a link to a larger version of the photo: http://photos11.flickr.com/15382274_2388cf7e47_o.jpg
