What is a Wellco?  Anybody heard of them before?

Are these just like standard issue?  What are these three layers?

Same here. I hope the sizing is just standard U.S. Mens sizes. Seeing the menu starting out at "2" and going up into "Clown" has me a tad worried.

At least I can tell Mrs. Dual they were 80% off and couldn't pass them up. I've been looking for a "boot-y boot" that actually goes up high and gives some real ankle support. Most everything in regular retail stores is just 3/4 to 1/2 high "hikers".
I promise not to duck.

Well, I'd ordered a pair too, so... I've seen these for about $80 and up other places, and they're apparently an approved .gov supplier.

I destroy poorly made boots pretty quickly, so we'll see. :)

I was warned that this online store can be somewhat... iffy.
Of course, I was warned after I made my purchase.  So here's hoping.

They're Jungle Boots.

Well actually they're the new summer boots for ACU's, but pretty much the same as old jungle boots down to the steel shank in the sole.  The 3-layer thing refers to the sole having three layers of rubber with varying cushiness. Supposed to make standing in them for longer easier.  They come with a Vibram sole so they have better wet/sandy traction then the old boots.  I have had a couple of pairs thoughtfully bought for me by your tax dollrs and they're decent boots.  Definatly worth $20 or even $50-$80.  They last well in most environments, the hard, sharp rocks will break them down though so avoid old lava flows and Afghanistan.  The set I'm using right now I've been wearing in the desert, while carrying loads for about 5 months and they're doing OK.  I'll probably finish the deployment with them.  Figure 6 month everyday/heavy use(hiking with pack/armor/load), one year everyday/light use (just walking), or several years weekend hiking/recreational use.

Sizes seem to be pretty standard on the pairs I've had, although I note that these are factory seconds so they might be a little off.

Dang.  I wish I'd known people were so ga-ga over the darned things.

I just took a bunch of new issued desert boots and flight boots to the local Goodwill as part of my garage clean-out duties.  New in box, but I'll never have need to wear them, so I figured somebody else could play GI for Halloween.  I did the same with a bunch of nomex flight suits, and my desert and woodland BDU sets are getting the same treatment as soon as I sanitize the name/rank/unit patches from them.

Never gave much thought to them, Chris.

I'm retired military, and I'll be damned if I ever want to wear nomex/camouflage again - 20+ years was great plenty, IMHO.

I kept the leather jackets, arctic gear and flight helmets, but I hadn't considered other folks may want the other stuff.

I'll have to take pictures and maybe do a thread sometime with G-98's Surplus Blowout.  ;)

Dibs on any of the cold weather gear.  Except the polypro undies.  I wouldn't want those, even if they were brand new.  Definitely don't want them with G98 sweat.

I wore a pair for about a day.  God awful uncomfortable.  Way too heavy for that kind of boot.  Also a lot of the people that were wearing them had blowouts in them.  The stitching between the nylon and the leather would give out, or the nylon itself would give out leaving a gaping hole in the side or back of the boot.  I paid $150 for a pair of 5.11's and have been perfectly happy with them since wearing them almost daily for about a year and a half.  There's a reason they're selling those things at such a cheap price.  I wouldn't even pay that much for them, honestly.

Dang.  I wish I'd known people were so ga-ga over the darned things.

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but it's not that I think these boots will be unbelievably great, it's that the boots you get retail for $25-35 these days are so unbelievably bad.

Hopefully with my jeans over most of the upper, no one will mistakenly think I'm a vet, or a wanna-be.

I promise not to duck.

Gewehr, I'm retired military, too. I like the bdu trousers. They're comfy & have a lot of pockets for "stuff".

I see a lot of folks wearing the stuff, so that's why I gave a bunch to Goodwill.

That's not saying I think they're all poseurs, but I've done my time wearing the funny clothes in woodland and desert camo, so somebody else can have them after I've sanitized them of insignia - per the rules.

I do have a pair of issued Danner boots, however, that are my favorites next to my RedWing Irish Setters.

Those have G-98 sweat in 'em, so they're staying with me.   =D

You've never done the dance clubs thing, I take it. Guys and girls, 2lb, 3lb Docs are nothing unusual.

I get the old used West German flectar pants for that. One, they're obviously foreign, so they don't look poseur, they're comfy, and the ripstop whatever does just that. They're good for working on the car. The only "current" stuff you can usually find in shops is the Chinamart "looks like issue" junk that's terrible.

So, if you see someone wearing a bit of military gear, you think they might be a poser?  ???  That would never cross my mind.

The only thing that bothers me is the camo pants with the athletic shoes.

No, I wouldn't. If I saw someone wearing full current ACU, perhaps. And yes, I occasionally see what looks like one of the airsoft kiddies wearing such in a mall. Mostly by the teen a__hole attitude that I would expect would have been beaten out of them in bootcamp if they'd actually signed up. And then there's the aisle-wides in digital urban ACUs and Maxpedition packs at gunshows...

I just personally think that wearing the full current uniform ought to be reserved for those who are actually serving. It's a respect thing. Since I'm not, I'll wear bits of old foreign gear for durability, or obviously dated US gear like a WWII mechanic sweater, but I leave the current stuff as part of the uniform for people who have earned the right to wear it. The boots, though, are so ubiquitous that there's athletic shoe and civilian copies that look just like them. Just how I feel about it.

Huh.  If they were wearing the whole uniform, but didn't look right in it, yeah, that might look poser to me, too.  But just wearing the pants with civvie clothes is fine.  That stuff is everywhere, and no one thinks they're going to fool anyone with it.

Scored two pair.  I have almost completely worn out all my issue boots, so I need more "work around hte house" boots.

If you like safety toe boots 7 have small feet, you can get a pair similar to thses for $25 at the same site.

Hint:  Your camouflage pants aren't much use, when your shoes are so brightly-colored.  :P

On the poser thing, though, it seems like a lot of people "dress up" in whatever bit of camo they have for the gun range or the gun show.  I tend to wear one of my t-shirts that has something totally un-manly on it.  Like my girls' softball t-shirt, or one of my wife's pre-school t-shirts.

LA Police Gear is a good company. No issues for me, ever. A few dozen orders, and one more... little sister is getting a pair of these!  =D
