The ONLY good ones were made in the UK.

I don't know whenthey switched. This would be the late 90's early 2000's. IIRC they were still made in the U.K. though.

I probably should have "splurged" and paid the extra $7 for the closeout boots with the full leather upper http://www.lapolicegear.com/wetancobocto.html The summer/jungle boot's thin nylon upper to help shed heat is harder to get the upper support I want. The other boot would have been a bit stiffer and provided more lateral support to the ankle. Maybe it wastes energy on a multi-mile hike, but I like some resistance in my upper to slow my ankle down.

I actually put some old sneaker insoles in mine, that helped a LOT.  I will go to wallymart and get some REAL ones when I have some extra cash next week.

IIRC, the Doc Martens "Vintage Line" is made in the UK. I'm thinking  of buying a pair. Got a pair of China Docs, happy so far, but I do remember how badly beaten up my last pair got.

The pair I ordered for my wife arrived today. Insoles in both, stitching, welt, and sole look good, the only flaw is a dark scuff mark on the side of one heel. She tried them on when she got in from work and liked them. She'll try 'em again tomorrow morning, maybe wear 'em for a while before the co-birthday party gets underway, to see how they feel then.
