It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Volokh had a good post on this:  http://volokh.com/2010/03/22/the-stupak-conundrum-why-did-the-stupak-nine-change-their-positions-on-the-health-care-bill-in-exchange-for-a-meaningless-executive-order/

I tend to agree.  I used to live in Stupak's district and never had the impression he was stupid.  While it may certainly be true that he didn't know executive orders can't override a law, he probably knew they could be rescinded.  Even if he didn't, I am sure one of staffers knows.

This likely allowed him to save face.  He was in a bad position if this didn't pass.  While there were others, he was seen as the leader of the pro-life Dems and there were all sorts of calls from around the country to see him defeated in the next election.

I don't think most voters are all that bright, so I doubt that they will see him as being complicit.  Most will remember him taking a stand and "forcing" Obama to make a concession.  He is fairly popular in his district, so I think it is hard to say he will lose because of what happened.

I'm thinking he was complicit in an attempt to dupe his contituents.

He has to know an executive order will not override legislation.

As such, since the Democrats were shot down on "deem and pass" which would allow him to PRETEND he wasn't voting for Federally subsidized abortion, they gave him another way to pretend he wasn't voting for federally subsidized abortion.

It's obvious his values are for sale for the right price.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

It's obvious his most of congresses' values are for sale for the right price.

Yup. Of course he knows all that. He's posturing. Dems are especially good at that.

I would bet the price being 30 pieces of silver.   Pelosi through one of her Evil Army of Flying Monkeys "assistant" House leaders controls the purse strings for re-election campaign funds.  So Stupak and the other 9 or 12 were basically told "Accept the Executive Order deal or no money for you this summer and fall."
