AP Beruit photo - doctored or not?
« on: January 23, 2007, 10:41:54 AM »
This story on Fox news (from the AP, I think) is running this photo showing "Beruit to be ablaze"

Sorry, but something about it seems a little fishy.  There is a huge pall of smoke but no shadow other than a small sliver of shadow at the top of the ridge in the center of the screen.  From the shadows on the buildings the sun is coming from just left and behind the photographer, so there should be a blotch of shadow over the entire city from the smoke cloud.

Wouldn't be the first time, eh.

Oh, Lord, please let me be as sanctimonious and self-righteous as those around me, so that I may fit in.

I am no expert, BUT, since the smoke in the foreground is being blown to the left; is the background smoke from a different fire, is the background smoke reversing direction or is the background smoke added??

I was thinking that the fires were probably real but the amount of smoke has been doctored to make it more dense/impressive/shocking.

Brad

*added* ...and just in case they try to pull an end-around, I saved a copy of the pic in question.

It looks suspicious, but I'm no expert.

The smoke is really dense and even.

Oh pshaw...

That's not smoke. That's a plague of locusts.

The AP has photo-chopped images before to make political points. Why would they not do it again?
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

Michael Totten posted some photos of Beirut burning on his blog, I think they're having an inversion... the smoke wasn't as dark but in the same area and layout.

I think it might be real.

It does look very similar to the previous photoshoped picture that is on Michelle Malkin's site.
That was the first thing I thought of.

I'm sure that someone will comment on a blog before too long.
