What's in a name?
« on: December 03, 2018, 10:45:06 AM »
Letters, apparently.

https://news.sky.com/story/girl-5-mocked-by-airline-staff-because-of-her-name-11567310

Mother names daughter "Abcde" and then complains that people want to slap the parents. She doesn't need to be slapped -- she needs to be whacked upside the head with the club bat.

Mother's first name should be pronounced MoeRon.

as silly as the woman that named her girl La-A.

Teacher asked the woman how to pronounce it.  Mother was irate.  "it's La Dasha.   The dash is NOT silent"

For a while I was toying with the idea of changing my name to Illegible Scrawl.

But I just left it as Terrance Scrawl.

Of course you have the classics...

Nosmo King XXXX

Orangello

Lemongello

And, Syphilis. Yep, inner city teen mother thought that was the most beautiful word she had ever heard so she wanted to name her baby that.

It's kinda hard to believe there were 39 people named Nosmo King before that one.

No no, that would be Nosmo King XL.

Do they even teach Roman Numerals these days?

I won't ask if kids learn it.

I can't take credit for this, as I found it on a meme that's circulating on Facebook related to the Abcde incident.

You could name your son "1234".  Pronounced Juan Tutrefor.

You're right, but the humor would be lost.  Actually, I guess the 39th would be Nosmo King IXL, wouldn't it?  Or VIIIIL ?  It's been a while.

Nosmo King XXXIX.

However, Nosmo King XL has DIFFERENT humor associated with it. And probably a more likely name than Nosmo King XXXX. (Which, of course, was supposed to be a stand in for a last name, but I had to supersize it.)

Ah, thanks.  Every time I deal with Roman Numerals I have to look them up again.  I remember being taught how they worked in grade school, and I remember seeing the dates for movies being in long strings of Xs, Ms, Cs, Vs, Ls, and Is.  But that was back in the late MCMXLs.

Even now when I see the MCM(x)(x)s pop up on the screen I try to decipher them. But I have not been getting as many because of lack of seeing them anymore. Another thing those youngsters these days have no idea about.   :old:

Yet another one:

Quote
Squire Sebastian Senator

Quote
“He will not be allowed to have a nickname, he is to be called by his full and complete first name,” she writes.

The woman defended her choice, claiming her family is descended from a long line of “both squires and senators.”

“If you look back in our family tree, the survival of this clan is literally rooted in squiredom. We are all related to senators too,” she writes. “This name conveys power. It conveys wealth. It conveys success.”

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution,” she continued.

Wow.  I followed the link and read the Facebook announcement.  According to the expectant mom, Squire Sebastian Senator is only the boy's first name, not his whole name.

Look, lady, Triple S will be called "Trip" before he's 12 and likely because he insists on it.
