Call me Ishmael.

So something in a fairly stable orbit shoots out a harpoon that strikes something else is a (for the moment) fairly stable orbit of a different speed and angle.  Didn't Newton say something about what happens when some force acts on that fairly stable orbit?  IIRC he called it a "Nantucket sleigh ride".

Can we get a second satellite up there to shoot video of the harpooning?  I'd pay to see that - even if it were taped rather than live.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

The idea of making chain shot in space seems...well...fine with me.

I'd hate to be the poor bastages in the ISS though.

Seems to me like the most logical way to do it would be to put a lot of harpoons on one vehicle, not worry overmuch about fine control except on the final deorbit, and pretty much make it a big game of Katamari Damacy meets Kerbal Space Program.

And if the harpoon doesn't penetrate?  Hello space billiards !!
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

I always figured something like a RPG would be better. Some pieces would fly out of orbit, some would burn up on re-entry.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.
Is defenestration possible through the overton window?

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Wouldn't it be simpler to give the harpoon a small rocket to de-orbit the satellite?
