The IT Crowd
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:58:31 PM »
Any of you IT blokes watch this British comedy? I just discovered it on Netflix last week. You have to "get" British comedy, but IT comedy is universal and it had me hooked when the first scene of the first show had one of the IT guys answering the phone (after letting it ring 20 times) and saying, " Hallo, IT. Did you turn it off and then back on again?"

It's on "watch instantly" for anyone interested.

I am not an IT guy.

I do, however, think the show is hilarious. I have only seen a couple of episodes, but it is a fine British comedy.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Thanks for the word, Ben. I'll give it a look-see. I like Brit humor.

I will say I thought Series One had hit or miss episodes, but that could be because they were new and trying to define themselves or that I was missing funny cultural references, or both. Series Two was just released to "watch instantly" and I watched the first three episodes last night. I couldn't stop laughing. Especially episode 1 -- I'm pretty sure I laughed non-stop through the entire thing.

Being in the field pretty quickly cured me of conditioned need to answer a ringing phone.  Ring.  ring.  ring ........

Big fan of the show, the first two seasons especially.  I heard they had plans to release an American version, with the same guy playing Moss and new cast for everyone else.  Couldn't believe it the first time I saw an episode, I've got an old friend from high school named Moss who had a ton of the same mannerisms.

Saw Better off Ted for the first time last night, had some similar humor, and it never hurts to spend half an hour looking at Portia De Rhossi (sp?).

Black Books is well worth watching for anyone who enjoys British humor.

de Rossi earns major cred for me for having been in Arrested Development. Despite being British, I honestly believe that Arrested Development was one of the best television shows ever created.

Black Books is good. They preserved that status by knowing when to stop. Three series was enough to leave fans wanting more and not discussing the shark jump moment.
I do not like, when with me play, and I think that you also

ROFL, I just started watching some of the clips off of youtube and was having a hard time staying in my chair.  One of my favorite parts was the road to nowhere clip where he throws the coffee. Also for some reason Moss sounds really familiar, like I've heard his voice somewhere else. Has he been on other things?

edit - New favorite, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALZZx1xmAzg&feature=related Anti-Piracy warning, made even more funny due to the recent thread that was locked.

I'm a member of the Order of the Camel and the Bat, which doesn't strictly make me one of the Elders, but grants me access to the Monastery where they congregate.

Also I've personally received e-mail from W. Richard Stevens, which gets me a certain amount of cred points.

AHA! I know why his voice sounded familiar. After watching a few more clips I then saw some with the character Douglas. And I was like, man he seems really really familiar. And then it hit me. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Now that show was freaking hilarious. That would show on I think it might of been PBS, because they used to show Monty Pythons Flying Circus too, here a long time ago and would stay up to watch it. That show would have me cracking up for hours.

I'm still trying to figure out where else I've heard his voice. None of the IMDB references rang a bell. In the first episode where he shows up, he does a great "Dune" reference.

Bloody hilarious stuff.
