I have one for beer bottles that looks like a steel water bottle that a buddy in Hawaii gave me. I'd never seen them before, but they're popular there because you can't drink on the beach, but everybody does. Also insulated to keep the beer cold for a good long time. It's at the rental I'm working on right now, but I'll take a picture when I get there later and post. It's a pretty neat setup.

ABSTRACT Many consumers perceive aluminum cans to be an inferior product, claiming they can taste the difference between bottled and can beers. Therefore, many restaurants do not carry canned beers. This study investigated whether consumers could taste a difference between beer in aluminum cans and beer in glass bottles. A series of triangle tests was conducted with 125 untrained panelists sampling 14 different types of beer. Of the 14 different types of beer, 9 showed no significant differences. Significant differences were identified when testing wheat beer, suggesting possible chemical interactions due to different grain ingredients. The average consumer could not taste the difference between canned and bottled beers for the majority of beers tested. The results suggest that though consumers may be able to taste differences between packaging methods for several types of beer, these difference may still be acceptable. In addition, cans may be more cost effective, provide storage and shipping advantages, and are more environmentally friendly.

FYI, many microbrews only come in cans now. My favorite being Duluth Brewing Company's Bent Paddle Dark Lager.

Of course you're not going to taste a difference if you are drinking swill like Bud Light (or any "flavors" thereof), Milwaukee's Best, Keystone (Regular or light), PBR or Coors Light (aka "Sparkling Beer Water").

I remember back in grade school when we -  urrrr, I mean a couple of guys who I barely knew and whose names I've long forgotten - were distilling applejack and potato vodka in their basement in sufficient quantity to sell it to one guy's older brother who in turn sold it out of his locker at a Catholic high school in the Chicago area . . .

Oh, given that draft beer comes in metal cans, a smaller version might work as well.

Part of the problem with beer in cans is the taste of the aluminum where you interface with the can.  You have to actually pour the beer into a glass to get around that, like they do with draft beers.

My impression is that better breweries now use lined cans which prevent this.

The outside of the lid is not lined.  But unless you have gold or silver front teeth, I don't think it's really much of a problem.
