Title: German elections: Chancellor Merkel wins a fourth term

Chancellor Merkel gets a fourth term while the far-right makes gains in the German Parliament.  I wonder if this bodes for any changes for Europe and the American-German relationship.

CDU/CSU and SPD got hammered.  CDU/ CSU losing almost 100 seats (1/3 of their seats prior), and same with SPD, losing 60 or 1/3 of their seats. AfD getting  88 seats shows that many Germans aren't happy with the immigration policies.  FDP gets play kingmaker again. But I wonder if SPD will come around to create a grand alliance to keep AfD in check.

Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands/Christlich-Soziale Union in Bayern and Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands got hammered.  Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands/Christlich-Soziale Union in Bayern losing almost 100 seats (1/3 of their seats prior), and same with Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands, losing 60 or 1/3 of their seats. Alternative für Deutschland getting 88 seats shows that many Germans aren't happy with the immigration policies.  Freie Demokratische Partei gets play kingmaker again. But I wonder if Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands will come around to create a grand alliance to keep Alternative für Deutschland in check.

Better??   :P :P :P

I looked, ok skimmed, at AfD's platform and if they're considered "far-right" then people don't know the definition of far-right.

They support a multitude of social programs like an UBI, minimum wages, support for single mothers and other lefty non-sense.

But they like guns, not enough to go to our level of freedom but for Europe they're not bad.

They are also mostly market-oriented so good but with strong government oversight which is meh.

They do not like or appreciate Islam though. And want to curtail immigration and close Muslim schools amongts other things. Which seems like a sane thing to do. I'm guessing this last bit and their strong stance on maintaining German culture is what gets them branded far-right even though they are all over the place.

The more I look at the breakdown of seats and the ability of Merkel (Or anyone actually) to form a government, I seriously think they will have to call new elections...
