Reichstag Fuego?

Well, if political opposition wasn't brutally suppressed in Venezuela before, it will be now.

First Turkey, now Venezuela.

Gotta wonder if the attempts were false flag operations, to justify a purge.

Maduro gets drone bombed. Survives. We'll, survives in a David Hogg sense, only others were injured.

The tribes are getting restless in Iran, too.  Maduro allegedly stated in the last week or so that socialism is not working.

So first Maduro destroys his country's economy, then  figures out that socialism doesn't work?!

It doesn’t matter if your political philosophy or morality actually works, all that matters is how it makes you and everyone feel. It’s the thought that counts.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

I am really sad by the situation in Venezuela and it seems that over here we don't care. The left can't, because they championed the mess. And if any of us cared, then what? We make such a fine mess intervening, but there must be a threshold. I imagine some in this country would have been fine with Hitler running the table had he just gone east. The world needs a solution for rabid dogs that run countries. I don't have one, just think about a few kids I knew in school from there, children of migrant fruit pickers, some Venezuelans I was in the military with, all decent people, they don't deserve this.

Not our problem. <insert trade mark logo here>

The US of A is not the police force of Earth.  Those people, whoever they are, need to at least try to fix their own problems.  The Venezuela issue is contained within Venezuela.  If Maduro tries to use force to take over Peru or Argentina, then maybe the US can start to consider thinking about getting involved.

I was thinking more along the lines of sending them a bunch of rifles and ammo.  If we send troops, they will end up being targets and we will spend a bunch of money doing nation building or something.  South America isn't the Middle East, but I am still very cautious.

Didn't we try that a few years ago? Iran Contra, anyone?

And didn't we arm the Taliban in Afghanistan, when the Rooshans were there? Look how well that turned out.

I think we need to sit on the sidelines, and just be sure it's contained within Venezuela. Yes, it sucks for the people of Venezuela, but they are the ones who voted in his predecessor, and then they voted him in when what's-his-name died.

We armed the Mujahideen in A'Stan during the Russian occupation.   That Mujahideen morphed into the Northern Alliance when we went there after 9.11.01 and it was with them we aligned to crush Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Having said that,  NO NO NO We should NOT intervene in Venezuela.  They trashed the country, they need to figure out how to fix it.   If we try they won't be able to figure out how to run it when (if?)  we leave.

Sad.  I was there for a short time back around 1969, 1970.  Caracas was a beautiful modern city.  They had oil derricks galore in the Maracaibo (sp?) basin.  My family made a good friend with a taxi driver there and we exchanged Xmas cards for years.
Sad that all that has been crushed under political incompetence,  but  we cannot fix their problem.

They probably need a Pinochet to get things under control and on a sustainable path.

Then once things are going well they can demonize him for the evil he used to suppress the evil of the mob and throw off his rule.

Rinse and repeat.

I didn't mean anything in the wider context of the United States and it's involvement in external affairs.

I thought Obama did that .....  [tinfoil]

Given our propensity, since Vietnam, to fight wars in a half-arsed way, I tend to agree that we ought to stay out of their sandboxes as far as possible.

I also think if they do a repeat of 9/11/01 on us, we should locate the nexus of the batages, and NUKE IT.

It would scare the **** out of a lot of people .... many of whom NEED scaring.
