not smart the way they handled that

CNN or the protesters?
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

The protesters. I tend to agree with C&SD here [oh horror] - the media  may be biased, by deliberately being hostile to them is basically a stupid move.

I find it hilarious that this thread was moved FROM the politics forum to round table, while the soylent green thread was moved from round table TO politics. ;/

Sorry we can't please you with our perfect moderation all the time.

This was moved out, because the basis for the thread was clearly not political.  The other one was moved that way because it started out clearly political.

The truth will out. Despite mainstream media attempts to characterize turnout as in the thousands, a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying "It is a record.... We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever."

One can only hope the "largest event held in Washington, ever" will be enough to get some attention and sway some political momentum our way. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Another interesting note on that page is how the protesters left DC.

Unlike the inauguration where I was sickened by the litter and trash left behind, it looks like the mall was left BETTER than when they came there.

DC should really encourage right-wing protestors to come every week. It'd save them on sanitation!

Maybe it's because I live in the DC area, but it was on the news a fair bit around here.

It was definitely not on the news here in North Carolina, unless you count local talk radio as a news source.

I haven't heard anything here except this thread and my own searching.
So I guess it was the wrong group protesting.

I'm having a hard time thinking of what else to do if huge demonstrations end up having a net effect of zero on our political creatures.

Yeah, we can still vote them out of office. Hopefully we will, come election time. But it's getting really old meting out "punishment" for damage that's already done, and accomplishing almost nothing except a slight slowing of the rising socialist tide and its damage...  :|

Like I said, it was probably due to my location.  I saw it on several local stations.

I wouldn't assume that a lack of coverage means there was no effect on the politicritters.  If nothing else, they live near mtnbkr and saw the same coverage he did.

It is a general rule of American, known to politicians across the land, that once huge, society-reorganizing measures, are passed, rarely if ever do they go away. Many come to depend - or to falsely believe they depend - on them, and will lash out vehemently at attempts to repeal, becoming valuable voters to those who would expand or protect these policies.

Seen through this lens, one understands why the Democrats want to ram their reforms soon no matter what the opposition.
