Bloomberg Leaves GOP. Will Giuliani Be Next?

NEW YORK - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday switched his party status from Republican to unaffiliated, a stunning move certain to be seen as a prelude to an independent presidential bid that would upend the 2008 race.

Nah.

RG has a chance at the Rep nomination.  He has less chance than Lieberman at the Dem nomination.

Also, he is unlikely to self-marginalize as a third-party pooper.

RG's best chance at POTUS is one his ego will not allow him to take: as veep to a more traditionally conservative POTUS, like GHWB did.

It is Tuesday.  Let the record show that I haven't visited APS since Saturday, (I think).  Which is shocking enough in itself.

When I heard about Bloomberg, I logged on to find this thread, so that I could say:

Yawn.   rolleyes

Whoops.  I posted yesterday and Sunday.  OK, the point is that I haven't posted much lately.  (For me.)

My understanding is that Bloomberg was a lifelong Democrat until he ran for mayor, at which time he switched to the Republican party. That would make sense given the crap he spews about guns. Good riddance I say.

Edited to add: Ah yes, confirmed now that I actually read Rabbi's link. Smiley

If either of them switched, would anyone notice a difference?

There is a difference to the party and a value in having them gone.  Giuliani is actually popular in some circles so his supporters will exert some influence on GOP policies.  If he left, his supporters would too and those bad influences on policy would go back to the Democrats or Independents or wherever.
