Thre was a story several years back about a company that got into trouble when they solicited a municipality to place a second mortgage on one of their office builidings.

Between our house address and PO box, I bet we get 30 of these a week.  Add that to the rest of the junk mail (credit card offers, car dealers, flyers/coupons, et al) we probably throw away/recycle a tree a month just for the two of us.  Is there ANY way to put a stop to it?

I just toss it all into the shredder each night.  I've already worn out one.

I keep meaning to buy one of those.  As it is I rip everything up and then toss it into the same bag with all of the used cat litter.  Not many will dig through that stuff.  Smiley

I only shred stuff if it has my name on it. If it's to occupant or resident I don't bother.

Yep, a shredder is a handy tool.  We get so much junk mail its amazing.

I think it causes more harm to the postal service than us consumers.  Just think of the volume of trash mail they handle each day.  Your first class letter might get there alot faster if this crap didnt get in the way.

Your first class letter might cost alot more to send if this crap wasn't there. I believe junk mail is a pretty large revenue source for the post office. Annoying as all get out though, to be sure. I think I'd be willing to accept higher postage rates if they dropped unsolicited/bulk mailings.

On a tangent, when I go check my PO box, I always throw the junk mail away at the post office.  Let them deal with the trash.  It may be a revenue generator but it is truly a PITA.

I keep getting refinance offers. My house is paid off. Why would I take out a mortgage on my paid for house, other than to get a down payment on new property? Even that's a last resort. Oh, yeah, gotta get that new plasma screen, I guess....
Between the refinance offers, credit card offers, and car loans, I get around 20-30 pieces a week.  Makes me crazy. Funny thing is, none of these people would actually want to follow through with me right now. My credit is terrible. Ah, well. It's good for lighting fires when I have a burn pile....

A few years ago, when my credit was a lot worse, due to my divorce, I got over $5 million worth of offers in less than 6 months.

I don't think there's a way to stop the Junk.  Fortunately, there's a way to have fun with it!

Atleast half of the junk I get comes with a postage pre-paid return envelope.  I stuff it with OTHER junk, such as a local pizza coupon, leaves, a used Kleenex, a picture my kid drew, or if I am feeling evil, a nice picture printed off the net from a porn site.  Then I drop it in the mailbox.

It never gets old.

My hunch is that the vast, vast majority of E-mail "mortgage" offers are exercises in fraud whose actual purpose is to acquire your credit card numbers.

I have no idea why the F., the B., and the I. completely ignore these fraudsters.

I send the occasional penny, a paperclip, their junk from their envelope (minus anything with my name), or the junk mail from a different company.  My favorite is to just send the kids through the house a have them find something to put in the envelopes.   My five year loves playing post office.

Great ideas.... thanks a lot.  I will keep my kids busy playing post office as well.
