As far as I can tell, I've got Highlanders on my father's side and Lowlanders (Ulster Scots) on my mother's side.  Both probably originally from present day Perthshire.  In fact, it is probable that my Highland ancestors raided and stole cattle from my Lowland ancestors about 500 years ago - which sort of explains a lot about my family .... Stickjockey has an ancestor named Killian Creek, which is the coolest name I've come across in the time I've been doing this.

(It's not real identifying for him..the guy was born a couple hundred years ago.)

T'was a great movie, to bad my Welsh ancestors were probably conscripted as Long-bowman on the wrong side.

I tend not to comment on enemy propaganda.
I do not like, when with me play, and I think that you also

Hmm, what info would you require to look into a person's ancestry, ma'am? And might I be able to persuade you to look into my own doubtlessly inglorious past? Smiley

It varies, honestly. Sometimes stuff is out there, sometimes you have to dig.

It's tougher if you have a very common name.

Email me what you know, from 1920-1930 or so back and I'll see what I can do.

Maybe I should start a thread.

Barbara, do you do the research as a business or a hobby...?

My paternal grandfather is supposed to have come from Scotland mid-1800s, but he is something of a shadowy character.  The tale is that he married an Indian woman and had a family before abandoning her and marrying a white woman (my great grandmother).  Also, he disappeared on a stock-trading expedition and the family belief is that he was robbed and murdered.

Just as a hobby. Usually I do ok. Charby's got me stumped, though.
