ATF promotes supervisors in controversial gun operation

Quote
The three supervisors have been given new management positions at the agency's headquarters in Washington. They are William G. McMahon, who was the ATF's deputy director of operations in the West, where the illegal trafficking program was focused, and William D. Newell and David Voth, both field supervisors who oversaw the program out of the agency's Phoenix office.

Quote
"Whenever we would get a trace report back," said Agent John Dodson, Voth "was jovial, if not giddy, just delighted about that: Hey, 20 of our guns were recovered with 350 pounds of dope in Mexico last night. … To them it proved the nexus to the drug cartels. It validated that were really working a cartel case here."

I guess this was to be expected.

Lets hope they are compartmentalized to the point that their compartment can be jettisoned at a later date.

Put them all in one place.

That's what you do with garbage.

Typical F-up move up mentality of the government.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I'm wondering if they're getting promoted to make them into "big fish" suitably high up enough in the org-chart at the BATFE to then take the fall and prevent even higher folks from going down.
I promise not to duck.

Ruby Ridge and Waco come to mind.  Wonder why?

So in cases like this are they being "paid" to keep quite? That is what I have always thought.

No, more a case of "Failing Upwards".  See Jamie Gorelick as an example and the Poster Child.

If you've anything in UTC sell it now.

I worked for UTC for five years.  I second this.

You just had to see this coming.  No surprise at all.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

On Fox's The Fives last night Bob Beckel said the agents in question had good over all records and had earned their promotions. He then made one of his patented snide comments about how it was all our fault because we have such lax gun laws anybody can get a gun.

Anytime now Eric Holder will be singled out for a special award of commendation.  Any bets when that's coming?  If these matters the rule is: Embrace the suck.
