You don't really save money by doing your own oil changes but you do get the satisfaction of knowing they were done right (as opposed to those mother *expletive deleted*ers down at Jiffy Lube *expletive deleted*ing your vehicle up) and you get a chance to look over other stuff and catch problems in the making. You also don't have to go in and wait on an oil change and so on.
Like I said, I was paying more than $35 per oil change, because I've been avoiding the kwikky-lube places, and going to local garages, or Firestone, etc. So I will save a bit. The timing aspect was the killer. My wife's car had gone about 8000 miles w/o a change, just because it's hard to get her to either go do it herself, or let me have the car for a few hours. Plus, I work every other Saturday, now. I could also go and put it up on the rack at Dad's house, but that's an hour each way, so I'd run into the same problems.
