Darn elevation

So I finally found Shiner beer in Denver.  Bought a 12 pack brought it home and put it in the freezer as it wasn't as cold as I like.  Back in the flatland I've had no problem doing this. This morning I opened the freezer to a frozen 12 pack.  Gives new meaning to "Cold one".

Anybody ever unfreeze beer? How did it come out?

I've never had to unfreeze beer.  Of course, I don't put in the freezer either.  If its not as cold as I like, I just pour in into one of the heavy glass mugs I keep in the freezer for just that need.

Unfortunatley I'm in my sparse summer residence. I have 2 forks, 2 spoons a knife and 4 cups.  No dedicated beer mug up here.

Temperature fluctuations really ruin beer, in a big way.  Especially warm to frozen to thawed.  It might still be okay, but normally it shouldn't be.

It was cool when it went in the freezer. I bought it refrigerated but it didn't seem real cold.

I have one in the fridge thawing I'll see how it goes.

I don't think elevation shoudl have anything to do with the freezing temp of a closed bottle of beer. Maybe the freezer is just colder?

Beer doesn't have much alcohol in it, it freezes at only a slightly lower temperature than water. Any good freezer should be able to freeze beer IMO.

Shiner shouldn't freeze solid in a refrigerator, but the freezer will do a number on it.  Ideally, you want to serve it in the 25F range.  Usually, you'll accomplish that at serving time with above-freezing beer, and a thoroughly frozen glass.  If you're going to cool it in the freezer, you should only do so for a relatively short time.  Your freezer is probably at about 10F, so it's WAY too cold for anything more than about 15 minutes.

I wouldn't worry too much about the quality after freezing.  It's not going to be as good as it should be, but it won't be bad.  I've made the same mistake by putting it in a cooler with too much ice.
