Military KIA benefits suspended

For a moment, put aside all of the park service shenanigans. obama is the CIC of the armed forces and is now denying those under his command benefits promised if they pay the ultimate price.

This is a new disgusting low for obama. He is an evil piece of *expletive deleted*it.

Always unwise to not pay one's Praetorian Guard.

Yes, and don't think the not yet dead in the military won't notice this.

Color me unsurprised.  This is exactly what can be expected from our boy king in the White House.  A boy completely without morals.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

How is it that this was deemed discretionary spending in the first place? This is a signature of f-ed up priorities from the outset.

I'll be very amused if they decide not to pay their soldiers and agents.

This won't end well for Obama and the Democrats.  There are already enough people PO'd over the NPS shenanigans and the other stunts they've pulled (No funding NIH for kids with cancer for one.)

One of the few institutions that consistently rate very high (if not the top) of Most Trusted by the American people is the Military.  The vast majority will find this highly offensive.

Duncan Hunter is mostly correct in his assessment.  It's also a great big middle finger to most of America.

BHO is not a student of history.

Given the fact that he won't release his college transcripts (and no one in his class at Columbia remembers him), I doubt he was much of a student of anything.

Earlier I was posting elsewhere here in agreement with you, but given what others pointed out and what I've read in the news this morning, I'm no longer sure of this. I still hope it blows up in their faces, but I'm not counting on it.

If the Republican were smart they'd do two things:

1) Pass a bill in House restoring this funding.  (If the Senate won't take up funding cancer treatment for kids they probably will not take it up.)

2) In the mean pass the (Republican) hat in Congress.  Have all the R's donate to pay flying the families to Dover, covering the other costs and paying the death benefit.

It is the right and proper thing to do.

Ah yes, this old yarn

The amber alert SYSTEM didn't shut down, from what I've read. Just a website associated with it.

This was the first time I ever heard the younger of my two bosses practically frothing at the mouth and spitting nasty names at Obama. She tends to disapprove of political talk at work because she thinks it's inappropriate and she dislikes it when her mother gets on an anti obama rant.

But this one had her going.

And she's right. This is disgusting and the only purpose is to PO people. Don't tell me they don't have planes already flying back and forth with supplys and whatnot. The overall cost of shipping these men home can't be more then a pitance.

And the amber alert website as well. No the actual system was never shut down, but the fact that it appeared to shutdown to the public is just another way to incite drama among the populance.
If that wasn't calculated, I'll eat my work boots.

I saw a blurb on the local news this morning with the talking heads spinning this as part of the republicans' shut down of government- as evidenced by a clip of a carney interview.  [barf] [barf]

Another thing.....

the undersecretary of defense was RIGHT a few days prior to the shutdown. The death gratuity is a legally separate pool of funds from pay and allowances. The law to pay the military only covers pay and allowances.

The DoD would have been on the wrong side of the law to pay those gratuities.

And they said something about it days prior to the shutdown.

The president knew, and congress knew. To blame the missing KIA gratuity on the DoD, and not on congress/the pres, is simply wrong.

I get that, but this underscores the difference between the public and private sector.
In the private sector, the executive is expected to solve problems, even if it entails making difficult and unpopular decisions. In the public sector, the executive simply has to point fingers at someone else and scream "they need to give me more money!"
