Though DeLauro is in favor of stronger guns laws that would completely ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, she emphasized this bill would not force gun owners to turn in their firearms.

Okay, so what is "high capacity ammunition"?

The legislation would provide up to $2,000 in tax credits for gun owners who voluntarily hand over assault weapons to their local police departments.

The fine print should be interesting.  How many firearms would have to be turned in to get the full two grand credit?  Not that I'm going to participate; it's just an academic interest.

Why bother with a build, after all, according to the armed collection division, the lower is the gun.

This would probably be a credit on your income. So you wouldn't actually get $2k more back. You take it off the income you report and pay less in taxes. So for example if you make $50k, you would only be taxed on $48k. It wouldn't really be worth turning in much of anything.

That would be a deduction, not a credit... but I suspect you are right about which way it would go.

If the wording is bad enough, you might actually see a company selling a cheap "assault rifle" that does little more than qualify for the credit.  With some stuff on sale, you can nearly get an AR down to $400 these days.  How cheap could you make one if the goal was not to actually use it?

All money is their money. They just allow us to use some of it. As long as they're giving tax credits for legal property, I wonder if I can start turning in old laptops and towers that I've gutted and have no further use for.
