So the space shuttle has vents that blow fresh air over the sleeping astronauts, to presumably stop local CO2 buildup. The vents needed louvers to control the air flow. Due however, to time constraints and engineering bureaucracy, the designers opted to borrow the louvers from a car, and the louvers that fit the vents were those from a 1979 Toyota corolla. However, not wanting to draw attention to the fact that the American Space Shuttle used car parts from a toyota (remember the late 1970's early 80's Japan Inc was smashing Detroit), engineers went into the toyota dealer and paid cash for 5 sets of auto louvers.
