New York City now spends a record $337,524 to incarcerate one person for a full year, or roughly $925 a day. That figure represents an 85% increase since 2014, when the daily cost of incarceration stood at $499, according to the report.

According to the article, one of the primary drivers in the increasing cost per day is staffing, particularly overtime.

Be cheaper in the long run to just built a wall around NYC

Saw it in a movie once

Why don't we outsource incarceration, at least for the worst, most violent offenders?

I bet Russian or Chinese gulags could warehouse our bad guys for under $100/day. (WAY under.)

And in places like Zimbabwe or Congo, the cost might even drop below $5 a day.

And in some REAL s-hole nations, they might even pay us for some fresh meat . . . errrrr, cheap labor.  >:D
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

8th Amendment gets in the way.
It wouldn't work anyway.  You would still have bureaucrats and "inspectors" skimming off the top so the part that actually costs the most is still there.
