Best cheap laser sight?

Is there such a thing? I see "best kept secrets" in a lot of areas.

What do you mean by laser sight? For pistol or rifle? Lots of not too expensive stuff in the streamlight/holosun range, depending on what you're looking for.

Are you asking about holographic sights or red dots in general? I have heard some people mistakenly call red dot sights laser sights.
Holographic sights used a laser to form the reticle but you're limited to Eotech and the Vortex UH-1 and that's it..
Red dots use a LED and there are dozens of brands to choose from.

Coherent light laser, that you can shine on the car window next to the one that the guy walking down the middle of the street down the block is thinking of breaking...

The most efficient form for that is a light/laser, IMHO. On the less expensive side, you can go O-light for ~$90.

I like the OLight combo laser and light.

OLIGHT Baldr S 800 Lumens Magnetic USB Rechargeable Weaponlight with Green Beam and White LED Combo, Compact Rail Mount Tactical Flashlight For $129 on Amazon.

I have 2, one on a Walther PPQ M2 Navy and the other on my KelTec Sub 2K

If it's to scare off burglars a half a block away, how about a laser pointer?

Olight models are the only thing I have messed with lately.  They are typically pretty reliable.  I couldn't tell you much about cheaper stuff.

The Olight models with the rail attachments like the Baldr models would easily switch between different guns.

Go to the pet food aisle at the grocery store.  Get a laser cat toy.  I bought one recently for about 4 bucks.

Holy crap.

I see oodles of liability there.  Oodles.

Might as welll just buy a lecturer's laser pointer and let it go at that if that's your intent.  Even so, it sounds like you're begging for trouble.

If it's for just plain shooting instead of playing cop, I have some experience with "coherent beam of light to the target" type of laser sights for my EDCs (handguns) I can share.

I do wish you'd be more focused in your posts.

O-Light got a bad wrap from that battery thing a few years ago. I have two of their weapon lights and find them to be high quality.

We've been having an epidemic of youts walking down streets, looking in cars, and occasionally smashing windows.

Should I call the police when I see someone doing that?

You should
Whether or not they show up is another matter entirely.
But a least you can say you did.

Oh, is that what this thread was all about?  Nice to know.

You're still asking for trouble, even it it was an ordinary citizen checking cars to see if pets were locked in them, or whatever.

But if they're actually breaking into cars, call the cops and forget it. It's  your legal obligation. But they are, I am told, prone to revenge.  Maybe not now, maybe not Tuesday.

Their concept of justice is different from yours and mine.

Okay - bought the Olight knockoff... It'll be here in a couple of days, and will mostly live by itself next to my front door - and I'll put it on the AR if things come to that...

Will report on it, and if I don't like it - well, it'll go back.

I would still get the cheap cat toy.  If the cops come to the door to see the laser you flashed on the "youts", you don't want to show them one mounted on an AR.
