Coherent light laser, that you can shine on the car window next to the one that the guy walking down the middle of the street down the block is thinking of breaking...

"I see you - better run?"

So, then - not a sight, but an aiming device.

If Sumdood thinks that the red dot crawling around on the car next to him, and on his buddy, and then on him, can do him bad, then yeah...

If this thing is decent, I'm probably gonna mount one on a Glock 17 or my 1911...

The problem with mounting a laser aimer on a firearm is the same as mounting flashlight on a firearm -- when you point the light at a person, you're also pointing the firearm at the person. Yet a basic rule of gun safety is to NOT point a gun at anything you don't want to shoot.

Want to warn off would-be car breakers?

Keep your gun handy in case they decide to shoot at you, but this will provide the requisite "Hey, we've been spotted" without pointing a gun at an allegedly live person.

Heh - I don't need the Beautiful Romantic Star stuff... Might get one assuming that it stays coherent.

When I was in the labs, for big meetings, the laser pointer weighed over a pound, and the presenters were instructed to NEVER EVEN THINK OF POINTING IT TOWARD THE AUDIENCE, and KEEP THE DAMN THING MOVING.

That was a good laser.

My bud Doc assembled a 200 watt CO2 laser a bit before he died. It was water cooled, and was one helluva cigar lighter. Yeah, we were safe. Mostly.

What if sumdood fears for his life and reacts by shooting at the source of the laser?

Odds are I'd be on the other side of an engine block, and within 10' of my front door...

Let's put things this way.

We sold out ALL the clubs we have been able to get. Don't buy a Kia.

And... Here's my neighborhood...

Yeah but are you going to say when the cops show up and sumdood says “I was just walking by a car and this guy pointed his gun at me, I was in fear for my life so I shot at him, and then he shot me!?”

You don't have to use the fancy lenses. I have a similar one that I used when I was teaching classes for the state. They had a wimpy clicker/laser thingie with a very weak beam. I'm red-green color blind -- so I couldn't even see their red pointer, so I bought one similar to this from Amazon that generates a lavender beam. That I can see, and it stays coherent for pretty decent distance.

I bought a CHEAP Red Laser off Amazon that actually works pretty well. Fits my G19 perfectly but I leave it loose in the drawer next to me to just play with (cat toy).
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

I have a Lasermax on one of the ARs. Very visible at good range. I’ve used it to dispatch some problem raccoons.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

Holy crap.

I see oodles of liability there.  Oodles.

Might as welll just buy a lecturer's laser pointer and let it go at that if that's your intent.  Even so, it sounds like you're begging for trouble.

What is the utility of red vs green? The more I think, this is likely to just end up on the carbine.

And... a lot of us here are videoing and so forth. Some neighborhood watch groups have been starting. They usually stop blathering about Zimmerman after someone they know gets a car stolen. D

If I had a choice, I would use one of the powerful LED spotlights with a 500 to 1000 meter throw.  Olight and others sell them.  Most are not cheap.

For rifles, I prefer red.  I have found green can easily get hard to see when aiming into a green background such as in the woods.  Probably depends on your likely background.  For pistols I like green since I have been favoring yellow/green front sights lately.

Until you get rid of Kim Gardener, neighborhood watch groups wont do any good; they are just at risk of being arrested and prosecuted on made-up charges. (something racist)  Surveillance cameras won't do any good.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out KG is getting kickbacks from the criminals.

Green, not get washed out as badly by daylight.  Red, more likely that your budding young socialist will recognize it as an aiming device.
