Horrifying! Loud! Menacing! Bruised my shoulder!
One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style assault weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.
Many gun shops turned down our request to fire and discuss the AR-15, a style of tactical machine gun popular with mass killers such as San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook and Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen.
But Frank Stelmach of Double Tap Shooting Range and Gun Shop invited me, videographer Michael Sheridan and reporter Adam Shrier to come down. Stelmach is not like many gun lovers. He admires his weaponry, yes, and has difficulty explaining why law-abiding citizens need a gun that can empty a 40-round clip in less than five seconds. But he also hates the idea that “bad people” get a hold of a gun like this and use it to kill without difficulty.

-
Way too much wrong with that. The guy in Orlando didn't even use an AR.
Really sweet how the author implies most gun owners don't care if quotation marks-bad people-close quotation marks don't care about people getting shot. ;/
-
Maybe they set this guy up? Gave him something much much stronger than a .223, told him to hold it loosely against his shoulder, didn't give him any hearing protection, and since he mentioned the casing flying past his face told him to use his left shoulder. Can you smell destruction?

The recoil bruised my shoulder. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary case of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.
What is this? Woody Allen visits a gun shop?
Did he have to change his diapers when he got home?

Temporary case of PTSD? I could not find that one in the DSM.

Everything is PTSD today. Your local vegan restaurant being out of organic kale for your daily salad is enough to get it nowadays.
Bruised shoulder from an AR? From a 'few shots'? Smell of sulfur?
Was the guy mistaking a Brown Bess for a AR?
edit: He also talked about semi-auto and full-auto. Reading between the lines about the gun dealer he worked with(a police supplier, apparently), I'm willing to bet that he got to handle a 'police special' firearm that us proletariat can't get. Maybe this was made clear to him but didn't make it into the article, or maybe it wasn't, and he really thinks we can buy full-auto ARs from the local Wally-world.
-
I guess he is hiding in his safe space now.

Yeah, that made me curious about the dealer and his motives, given all the others who turned the dumbass reporter down. There's no way to make a determination on the dealer good or bad though, because the article is such horse crap.

Brass flying past face? Are they a lefty?
I'm a lefty who has alway used right handed AR15's, M16's and M4's. Brass flying past my face has never been an issue. I'd love to watch the guy fire my M38 or MN 91/30. The fireball coming from my M38 would probably make him wet his pants. :P

That's the second time today I heard that. The initial reports I read said he did.
If not an AR-15, what did he use?
-
He used a Sig MCX.
Here's a very good article on the terrifying nature of MSRs. I'm glad I read it. One appreciates a bit of sanity in these times.

Sig Sauer MCX carbine

Sig Sauer MCX carbine
Doesn't matter any more.
The gun the Orlando shooter used was not an AR-15. That doesn’t change much.
While aesthetically similar to and just as lethal as an AR-15, the MCX is internally a different beast, thus all but removing it from the AR-15 family of rifles. Yet while the weapon is different, the MCX and the AR-15 share the same design purpose: providing a highly portable, customizable, easy to operate and accurate rifle for the individual who possesses it.

Pathetic excuse for a human being. My 4 year old daughter has more (metaphorical) balls than that waste of oxygen.

This. I'm not one for Internet bravado but come the *expletive deleted*ck on.... what a limp wristed panty waist. There are 6 year old girls tougher than this guy.
-
From reading the article, I get the sense that he's either just fabricating details, or he fired a fully automatic weapon, and also fabricated details. Either way, he probably lives a nice, safe life, and will never need to defend himself. He'll live to a ripe, old age.
-

I don't know Ben, usually they get that *expletive deleted*it right. I am leaning towards the dealer being not on our side and needs to be Zumbo'ed

I wouldn't be surprised if he is fabricating how that conversation went down. He had "difficulty" explaining, just like all those gun owners were stumped in the Katie Couric interview.

Could be. Here's what the dealer supposedly said:
“There should be expanded background checks — extending into your family, friends and associates,” he said. “And there should be a mental health screening. In Europe, if you want to buy a gun, you have to see a doctor (for a psychiatric examination) to see if something’s not right.”
Stelmach, who opened his shop six years ago after a career in law enforcement in Europe, even calls for government officials to take away guns from some owners — something very few gun advocates support....
He loves the AR-15 for cops, soldiers, hunters and target shooters. “It’s fun to shoot something like that,” he said.

I don't recall seeing that in the link.

Looked again and saw a link in the link to the NY Daily News article. There is a video there to. Apparently this store owner was a cop in Europe before coming here. Pretty much explains his remarks.

After the reporters girlfriend saw this story she decided they should both see other men.

That's what I thought.

A cop who wants to take away Americans freedoms? I'm shocked! What a cultural aberration.

I guess that's what happens when you trust your gun store to an outfit that's vituperously opposed to basic human rights.
We are all collectively shocked.

If this dude thinks shooting an AR leaves bruises and has temporary PTSD from shooting one, he'd have to be institutionalized for a mental breakdown if he got his hymen broke.
(in other words, knock off the "he's a girl" *expletive deleted*it. He's too wimpy for that)

The Daily News did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThzNEs9jh_8&feature=youtu.be
(more worthwhile, and less "oh dear, I have the vapors!" than the written article)
Gun shop owner's comments about medical tests for gun ownership start around 2:45. Unless the audio was heavily edited, it sounds like he is advocating such tests for U.S. gun buyers.
He also throws the PS90 and AK under the bus.
Perhaps he was not as misrepresented as he claims.

I had only scanned over the ignorant opinion piece. then today I actually caught the guys name.
Gersh Kuntzman.
Strangely appropriate.

Eh. Sig's webpage says you can put the MCX upper on any milspec AR lower. To me, that's close enough to call it an AR, for me.
Not that it MATTERS, because it's the person not the tool. But still.

I would agree with that. I saw the pictures of the MCX yesterday and thought it looks an aweful lot like an upgraded AR.

http://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.ch/2016/06/another-lying-journalist-is-exposed.html
Yesterday the man in this video from the NY Daily News called and asked if he could come and interview us about the basic principles of how an AR-15 works. We acknowledged his offer so that we could prove that an AR-15 is indeed a great and safe weapon as stated in the video. After the video was filmed there was another Q&A type conversation on how things work in other countries, what are some of the things others believe would be a step into the right direction of gun control. To our knowledge we did not know that Mr. Kuntzman would completely turn things around and make our establishment look like one of anti-gun advocates.
We have received dozens of phone from all over the country in regards to the article. Many of these callers expressed disgust with the article and told us to stay away from the media. I can assure everyone that we do not support mental health screenings like they do in Europe and we don't think that government officials should take away guns from people as it was portrayed in the article. Currently we are doing everything we can to take this article down because after reading it we are just as disgusted about it as all of you are. Our team here at Double Tap would like to sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and report that we are doing everything in our power to get this article removed.
I implore all of our supporters to share our apology with everyone in order to help defend ourselves from the media who is doing anything in their power to blemish the face of all gun owners and attempting to add more rule to the fire of the attempt of the liberal gun-grabbing agenda. To those that are writing negative reviews about us, please understand we had no intentions of having this article cause such an issue, nor intentions of us looking like anti gun advocates but, to educate which in turn did the complete opposite due to Mr. Kuntzman. If anyone has anymore questions or concerns please feel free to come in or call us we will gladly discuss this issue with you.
And for the record, if you get a bruised shoulder or PTSD from shooting an AR-15 you may be a Katie Couric, liberal with ought testicular fortitude.

Shocking, anti-gun hit piece is filled with outright lies. And folks wonder why the news is becoming less and less relevant.

Propagandist, that's all. Not a journalist. Not too many modern reporters are.
The trouble really is that the NY Daily News actually has its finger on the pulse of most New Yorkers. Hence its longevity.
Garbage in, garbage out.
And that goes in both directions in terms of "attitude flow" from the paper to the citizens and back again.

ASK KUNTZMAN! by Larry Correia
After the wildly successful feature where ace reporter Gersh Kuntzman gave us the straight scoop on what it is like to shoot the terrifying AR-15 “Black Mamba Star Killer Base” rifle, we here at the New York Daily News are happy to present our new feature ASK KUNTZMAN!
=D
In the cold New York City rain, I lay there helpless and soiled in the gutter. The terrifying Prius looming over me, asserting its alpha dominance, and I crawled away. Forever.

What is it like to fire a Daisy BB gun?
I took a deep breath and determined to enter a Wal-Mart. A "greeter" met me with, "Howdy, welcome to Wal-Mart." I'm from the north. We don't say "Howdy". I sneer back at the microaggression and strain to hold back tears of rage. Barely controlling myself, I asked where I could find a BB gun. He directed me to "sporting goods," still smiling and gloating over his slyly delivered offense.

Vox "Voxplains" the AR-15. Any of you AR-15 owners pissed that you got ripped off on the grenade launcher?

Also, from the liberal rag from where I used to live (I read it once in a while when I need to calibrate my blood pressure monitor). I don't think the reporter got a single firearm related fact right. It's both amazing and frustrating that this nonsense becomes a common reference to the general population on what an "assault weapon" is:
